Timo Rost (born August 29, 1978 in Lauf an der Pegnitz ) is a former German soccer player and current coach .
Career as a player
Timo Rost learned to play football at SC Happurg and 1. FC Amberg . In 1992 he moved to the youth division of 1. FC Nürnberg , where he matured to become a junior national player. With the DFB selection, he came third in the U-16 European Football Championship in 1994 and took part in the U-17 World Cup in 1995 . He was the captain of the U-15, U-16 and U-17 national teams . At the age of 18, Rost played in the club's first team, which became champions of the South Regional Football League in 1996/97 . On December 14, 1997, he made his professional debut for the Franks. In the second division game against Energie Cottbus , the then 19-year-old came on in the 86th minute. Overall, he played nine times for the club this season, three times from the start and promoted to the Bundesliga with Nuremberg . In 1998 he switched to VfB Stuttgart . He completed 16 first division games and one UEFA Cup game for the Swabians and scored one goal.
From 2000 to the end of 2001 he gained international experience at the Austrian first division club FK Austria Wien . At the beginning of the second half of the 2001/02 season the 1.81 m tall midfielder moved back to the German Bundesliga, this time to Energie Cottbus . In one and a half first division seasons he played 33 times for the Lausitzer, scored two goals and relegated to the second division with them at the end of the 2002/03 season . In the following years he completed a total of 86 of 102 possible second division games, scored five goals and celebrated promotion to the Bundesliga with the Lausitzers in 2006, where he was one of the team's top performers. In the 2006/07 season he completed 31 of 34 possible first division games and scored one goal. In the current season he was appointed captain of the team by coach Petrik Sander . Even under Bojan Prašnikar , Timo Rost was captain and an absolute top performer. In 2009 he was relegated with Cottbus . On December 9, 2009, the 31-year-old and Energie Cottbus mutually agreed on an early termination of the contract that ended in summer 2010. In January 2010, Rost moved to the upper division RB Leipzig and achieved promotion to the North Regional Football League with the club . In the 2010/11 season he missed the targeted march through to the 3rd soccer league with the Leipzigers as fourth in the table . After missing this again in the 2011/12 season, he ended his career.
Career as a coach
On July 1, 2013, Rost became the coach of the regional division FC Amberg , for whose predecessor club he had already played as a youth. He initially stayed with the club as a player-coach. In February 2014 he received his Trainer A license . In the 2014/15 season he was promoted to the Bayern Regionalliga with FC Amberg. In June 2016, Rost announced that it would leave FC Amberg at the end of the season in order to acquire a football instructor license. He completed his training as a football teacher at the Hennes-Weisweiler Academy in Hennef and received the UEFA Pro license on March 20, 2017 . On May 23, 2017, Rost took over the U23 regional league team of SpVgg Greuther Fürth , which was relegated to relegation at the time. He managed with them to stay in the regional league Bayern.
On September 4, 2018, SpVgg Oberfranken presented Bayreuth Rost as the new coach for their team in the Regionalliga Bayern. He took over the team on the 9th matchday, beaten in the last place in the table with 4 points and managed to keep the league early.
