Alberto Méndez Rodríguez (born October 24, 1974 in Nuremberg ) is a former German - Spanish soccer player .
Career
Méndez played in 1996 at 1. SC Feucht in the Bavarian regional football league when he was seen playing against the ESV marshalling yard in Nuremberg by Arsène Wenger , the coach of the top London club Arsenal . A year later he moved to the English club for a fee of 600,000 D-Marks. He played several games for Arsenal, including a game in the UEFA Champions League . In the 3-1 win against Panathinaikos Athens , he scored the 1-0 in the 66th minute. He was substituted for Tommy Black in the 78th minute. Mendez could not finally prevail due to numerous injuries.
He then tried his luck in Greece at AEK Athens , where he played from February to April 1999, and again in Germany at SpVgg Unterhaching (July 1999 to June 2000). But the bad luck with injuries remained loyal to him and so his second attempt at Arsenal also failed.
In 2001 he moved to the Spanish second division team Racing de Ferrol . He stayed here for two years and found a new club in 2003 with FC Terrassa . In 2004 he returned to Feucht, in 2005 he moved to SpVgg Bayreuth . In the 2006/07 season he played for the southern regional division SV Darmstadt 98 .
In the run-up to the 2007/08 season he moved to the regional division SV Sandhausen , where he qualified for the 3rd division . In December 2008 he left Sandhausen to join the Bayern league team SpVgg Weiden , with whom he won the championship and the associated promotion to the Regionalliga Süd in the same season .
In November 2010 Méndez announced the end of his career due to another serious injury.
For the 2011/12 season he took over the coaching position at the Upper Palatinate regional league club FC Amberg , which he led to the new Bayern League North in 2012 and was dismissed there in April 2013. In the 2013/14 season he laced his soccer shoes again for the Central Franconian district classics TV Leinburg and scored three goals in eight games. In May 2020 he hired the Central Franconian district league club TSG 08 Roth as a coach.
