The VfR Garching is a sports club from the Upper Bavarian town of Garching north of Munich. Besides the successful football department , the sports in the club are Basketball , Martial Arts , Handball , Athletics , Dancing , gymnastics / gymnastics and volleyball offered. It has around 1950 members.
history
The club was founded in 1921 as a football club. In 1937 club life came to a largely standstill. After the end of the Second World War , sports operations were resumed in 1946. In 1973 other sports were added with the gymnastics department and the volleyball department.
The Garching footballers played in the lower leagues of the Munich football district until the mid-1980s. A highlight was a friendly game against FC Bayern with Franz Beckenbauer and Gerd Müller in 1972. In 1991, VfR Garching was promoted to the regional league for the first time. After relegation in 1995, it was not until 2009 that they were promoted to this division again.
As part of the league reform of the Bavarian Football Association , Garching was promoted to the sixth class Southeast regional league in spring 2012 . There the runner-up was achieved in the first year. After promotion games against SpVgg Grün-Weiß Deggendorf and SV Friesen , the club qualified for the first time for the Bayern League under the direction of coach Daniel Weber . Former second division professional Patrick Würll also belonged to the squad at that time .
The following 2013/14 season was also sportingly successful for Garching: With the withdrawal of the master BC Aichach from the Bayernliga Süd, second place was enough for the first promotion to the fourth-class Bavarian regional league , from which they won in 2014/15 after 16th place and a defeat in the relegation against FC Amberg had to relegate immediately. A highlight from Garching's point of view was the 3-2 away win against the second team of TSV 1860 Munich in front of 1000 spectators in the stadium on Grünwalder Strasse .
In the 2015/16 season, the Garching champions of the Bayern League South and immediately returned to the Regionalliga. Thus, the black and whites played in the 2016/17 season for the first time in recent history in the same division as the district rivals SpVgg Unterhaching . The former Bundesliga club, which is the partner club of VfR Garching, won his away game in Garching 8-1.
