Aharon Uzan ( Hebrew אהרן אוזן; * November 1, 1924 in Moknine , Tunisia ; † January 23, 2007 ) was an Israeli politician .

Life

Aharon Uzan joined the right-wing Zionist youth movement Betar in Tunisia before he went to Israel in 1949, where he and other Tunisian immigrants founded the moshav Gilat in the western Negev , where he settled. He served the moshav from 1952 to 1959 as secretary and treasurer. In 1960 he founded the Negev Moshavs Purchasing Company , which he also managed until 1968. Other companies he founded and which were connected with the supply of the moshaws in the Negev were Negev Water , Negev Moshav Development Company , Merhav: Transportation to Negev Moshavs . From 1970 to 1973 he was secretary of the moshav movement ( Hebrew תנועת המושבים Tnu'at HaMoshavim ). After 1979 Aharon Uzan was president of the Sephardi Federation of Israel , the umbrella organization of Sephardic Jews in Israel.

Political career

In 1949 he joined the left-wing Mapai in Israel , which he left in 1981 to found the Tami together with Aharon Abuchazira .

In the elections to the 6th Knesset (from November 22, 1965 to November 17, 1969) on November 1, 1965, Uzan ran on the list of HaMaʿarach and entered parliament. In the 13th government founded by Levi Eshkol , which was made possible by a coalition of the left party alliance HaMa'arach with a few other parties (among them the National Religious Party , Rafi and the independent liberals ) and which was made possible after Eshkol's death (February 26, 1969 ) ended on March 17, 1969, Uzan held the office of Deputy Minister of Agriculture , a position that he also held in the successor government (14th government under Golda Meir , which lasted from March 17, 1969 until the end of the legislative period on December 15, 1969 ) retained. In the elections to the 7th Knesset, Aharon Uzan lost his mandate and office.

It was only in the 16th government, which was founded by Golda Meir on March 10, 1974, but only lasted until June 3, 1974, that Uzan received a government office again: he became Minister of Communications , although he was in the 8th Knesset (21st January 1974 to June 13, 1977) had no seat. After Meir's resignation and Yitzhak Rabin's takeover of government affairs , Uzan was Minister of Agriculture in the 17th government (June 3, 1974 to June 20, 1977), and he also took over from March 20, 1975 until the end of the government period from previous incumbent Rabin the already known to him office of communications minister.
