Originally the Ministry was only called Ministry of Agriculture ; In 1992 the name was changed.

List of ministers

Political direction of the ministry lies with the Minister of Agriculture and Development of the Village ( Hebrew שַׂר הָחַקְלָאוּת וּפִתּוּחַ הַכְּפָר Sar ha-Chaqla'ūt ū-Fittūach ha-Kfar , German 'Minister of Agriculture and Development of the Village' , Arabic وزير الزراعة وتطوير القرية, DMG Wazīr az-Zirāʿa wa-Taṭwīr al-Qariyya ). The ministry is not one of the major posts in government. Two premiers, Menachem Begin and Ehud Barak, also served as Minister of Agriculture; Beginning after the sudden death of the owner and Barak after the resignation of the minister. Occasionally, deputy ministers (ministers of state) are appointed.
