Josef Efrati

Josef Efrati ( Hebrew יוסף אפרתי; born February 19, 1897 in Pinsk , Russian Empire ; died February 8, 1975 ) was an Israeli politician who served as Deputy Minister of Agriculture for the Mapai from July 9, 1952 to December 24, 1952.

Life

He attended a cheder and immigrated to Palestine in 1914 , where he graduated from an agricultural school in Petach Tikwa . In 1917 he settled with a group in Be'er Tuwjia ( Hebrew בְּאֵר טוֹבִיָּה) at Kirjat Mal'achi . From 1923 to 1925 he was at an agricultural research institute in Ben Shemen ( Hebrew בֶּן שֶׁמֶן) worked at Lod . In 1925 he moved to Gewa .

politics

He was a member of HaPoel HaZair and later the Mapai . He was one of the leaders of the Merkas HaChakla'i ( Hebrew המרכז החקלאי). In the 1949 elections, he was elected to the Knesset on the Mapai electoral list . Re-elected in 1951, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Agriculture on July 9, 1952 . Efrati has served on the finance committee for all terms he has served in the Knesset. He was re-elected in the 1955, 1959 and 1961 elections. In 1965 he lost his seat in the Knesset.
