The Minister of Labor ( Hebrew שר העבודה, Sar HaAvoda ) headed the Israeli Ministry of Labor as a cabinet member. The office was created with the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, when it was Minister of Labor and Construction ( Hebrew שר העבודה והבינוי, Sar HaAwoda WeHaBinui ). A year later it was called Minister of Labor and Welfare ( Hebrew שַׂרת העֲבוֹדָה, השִׁכּוּן והבִּטּוּחַ העֲמָמִי, Sarat HaAwoda, HaBituach, weHaBituach HaAmami , Minister for Labor, Housing and Basic Security ).
