Albert de Klerk (born October 4, 1917 in Haarlem ; † December 1, 1998 ibid) was a Dutch conductor , organist and composer .

Life

De Klerk is the son of the musician Jos de Klerk (1885–1969), who appeared as his first teacher. Albert de Klerk studied organ playing at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam , among others with Anthon van der Horst , and graduated in 1939 with a diploma with the grade summa cum laude . As early as 1934, he succeeded Hendrik Andriessen as organist at St. Joseph's Church in Haarlem, an office he held until his death. From 1946 to 1964, de Klerk taught organ at the Institute for Catholic Church Music in Utrecht , before teaching as a professor of organ at the Amsterdam Conservatory from 1965 to 1983 . From 1956 to 1986 he was the city organist of Haarlem together with Piet Kee .

De Klerk composed works in the field of chamber music for organ , piano , glockenspiel , choir and solo voice . He also worked as a conductor and organ improviser .
