The Working Group of European Choir Associations ( AGEC ; French Union des Fédérations Chorales Européennes , English Union of European Choral Federations ) was an umbrella organization of European choir associations . It was founded in Strasbourg in 1956 and was based in Antwerp . The aim of the working group was to coordinate the cooperation between the member associations. The AGEC was chaired by a general assembly chaired by an international bureau. A music commission advised the general assembly on all musical matters.

One of the AGEC's projects was the annual Eurochor . It was carried out in different countries, whose respective musical culture formed the main theme of the events. AGEC also took over the patronage of other international choir events, competitions, advanced training courses and conferences of particular importance.

The AGEC annually awarded the European composition prize Die Goldene Stimmgabel , with which contemporary choral work was to be promoted. The award winners included Krzysztof Penderecki , Henk Badings , Heinrich Poos , Jürgen Golle and Vic Nees .

The AGEC had 16 member associations from 14 European countries (as of 2009), including the German Choir Association , the Austrian Choir Association and the Swiss Choir Association . She was a member of the International Federation for Choral Music , the Europa Cantat and the European Music Council and co-initiator of the European Parliament of Young Musicians .

In January 2011 the AGEC merged with “Europa Cantat - European Federation of Young Choirs” to form the European Choral Association - Europa Cantat .
