The Ministry of Development was responsible for the national infrastructure until 1974 . After its dissolution, the infrastructure area was also looked after by other departments.
In 1977 the Ministry was during the government of Menachem Begin as Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure ( Hebrew מִשְׂרָד האֶנֶרְגְּיָה והתַּשְׁתִּית, translit. Misrad HaEnergjia weHaTaschtit ) newly founded. During the reign of Yitzchak Rabin , the ministry had a dual leadership with Amnon Rubinstein and Moshe Schachal . After forming a government in 1996 by Benjamin Netanyahu , the Ministry was renamed the Ministry of National Infrastructures ( Hebrew מִשְׂרָד התַּשְׁתִּיּוּת הלְאֻמִּיּוּת, translit. Misrad HaTashtiyut HaLe'umijut ). The only deputy minister to date, Naomi Blumenthal , has been appointed to Ariel Sharon’s cabinet . When the government was formed in 2009 , it was renamed Ministry of Energy and Water ( Hebrew שר האנרגיה והמים). It was last renamed Ministry of Energy and Water Supply ( Hebrew מִשְׂרָד האֶנֶרְגְּיָה והמים, translit. Misrad HaEnergjia weHaMajim ) at the formation of the government in 2013 .
