Rabbi Elijahu Suissa (אליהו סויסה, also אלי סויסה; Eli Suissa ; * 1956 in Morocco ) is a former Israeli politician.

life and career

After Suissa's birth, the family immigrated to Israel. Suissa studied at a yeshiva and became a rabbi . Despite not being a member of the Knesset, he became Minister of the Interior in Benjamin Netanyahu's government in June 1996 . On August 7, 1996 he was also minister of religion, but only for five days. In the 1999 elections, he became a member of the Shas Knesset and became Minister of Energy and Water . Under Ariel Sharon he became Minister for Jerusalem Affairs .
