Techija

Techija ( Hebrew תחיה, Revival ) was a right-wing national religious party in Israel that existed from 1979 to 1992. The party was founded by Geula Cohen .

Surname

Originally this party was known as Banai (בנא״י), acronym for the League of Believers in the Land of Israel (ברית נאמני ארץ ישראל). The acronym is composed of the first letters of:

  • B rit ( Hebrew בְרִית)
  • N äämanaji ( Hebrew נֶאֱמָנַי)
  • E retz ( Hebrew אֶרֶץ)
  • I srael ( Hebrew יִשְׂרָאֵל)

After that she became Techija-Bnai (תחייה-בנא״י) called, after all just Techija .

background

The party was founded in 1979 in response to the peace treaty with Egypt . The members of this party refused to return the Sinai Peninsula to Egypt . One of the co-founders of the party was Moshe Shamir, who had been a member of the Movement for a Greater Israel since 1967 , the aim of which was to annex the territories conquered in the Six Day War. Another founding member was the military and physicist Juval Ne'eman .
