Cabinet Levi Eschkol III

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The cabinet of Levi Eshkol III ( Hebrew מֶמְשֶׁלֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל הַשְׁלוֹשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה, Memshelet Yisra'el HaShlosh esre ) was the third Israeli coalition government with Levi Eschkol as prime minister and the thirteenth government since the establishment of the State of Israel. After the elections on November 1, 1965 for the sixth legislative period of the Knesset , President Salman Shazar charged Levi Eschkol with forming a government. The government, with 18 ministerial posts, was formed on January 12, 1966 by a coalition government made up of HaMa'arach , the National Religious Party , Mapam , Libralim Atzma'im , Poalei Agudat Jisra'el and the two parties representing the Arab-born Israelis , Shituf weAchwa and Kidma wePituach .

After the outbreak of the Six Day War on June 5, 1967, a government of national unity (National Unity Government) was formed together with the previous opposition parties Gachal and Rafi . This was expanded to include three more ministers and two new ministries ( Ministry for the Reception of Immigrants and Ministry for Information ).

After Levi Eschkol's death on February 26, 1969, a new government was formed on March 17, 1969 with Golda Meir as Prime Minister. In the meantime, Jigal Allon took over the government.
