Aharon Jadlin ( Hebrew אהרן ידלין; * April 17, 1926 in Ben Schemen , Palestine ) is a former Israeli educator and politician .

Life

He was a member of a scout group and national coordinator of the scout movement in the mandate area . In 1946 he participated in the project of eleven bases in the Negev and was one of the founders of Kibbutz Be'eri . During the Palestine War in 1948 he was active in the Palmach .

From 1950 to 1952 he was on the administrative committee of the Histadrut union . He received an MA in history, economics, and sociology from Hebrew University . After the split in the kibbutz movement , he moved to the kibbutz Chazerim . He was one of the founders of the Beit Berl University of Applied Sciences , where he taught sociology and was the responsible director from 1955 to 1957. From 1964 to 1972 he was chairman of the Committee for Youth Associations of the Mapai .

In 1960 he was elected to the fourth Knesset for the Mapai , of which he was a member until September 1961. From 1964 to 1979 he was a member of the Knesset throughout. He was a member of the committees for economic affairs, for education and culture, for constitution, law and statute, for internal affairs and for defense.

In the ninth Knesset he was chairman of the committee for education. From 1964 to 1972 he was Deputy Minister of Education and from 1972 to 1974 he was Secretary General of Avoda . From 1974 to 1977 he was Minister for Education. He introduced an all-day school program for the Israeli developing cities and areas affected by poverty.

After he left the Knesset in 1979, he worked in various public offices, including general secretary of the kibbutz movement "HaKibbutz HaMeuchad" from 1985 to 1989.

He has three sons and eleven grandchildren. One of his sons is Amos Jadlin , Major General ( Aluf ) of the Israel Defense Forces .

Awards

In 2010 Jadlin received the Israel Prize for his lifelong commitment and special contribution to Israeli society and to the State of Israel.
