Beit Berl ( Hebrew בֵּית בֶּרְל, German: Haus Berl ) is an academic university in Israel. The campus is located near Kfar Saba and has the status of a municipality in the Drom HaScharon regional association .

history

Beit Berl was founded as a place on August 21, 1946 and is named after the Histadrut and Awoda leader Berl Katznelson . At first it was a military base of the Haganah or Israel Defense Forces . Since the late 1940s, teachers, kibbutz members and youth leaders have also been trained on the site .

In 1979, Beit Berl received state approval for its courses and, in 1981, academic recognition as a teacher training college under the supervision of the Ministry of Education . Various educational institutions in the region were gradually united under the umbrella of Beit Berl. In 1987 it was recognized as a university for all courses.

Structure, order and personnel

Today Beit Berl comprises four faculties:

Around 1,000 full-time and part-time lecturers research and teach around 10,000 students. In addition to bachelor degrees for teaching at all types of schools, master’s degrees are also available. a. in art education, special education and educational management. Beit Berl sees itself as a multicultural university institution and tries to enable its graduates in particular for a peaceful coexistence of the cultures that exist in Israel.

As part of the city partnership between Kfar Saba and Wiesbaden, there is also an exchange program with the social affairs department of the Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences , in which numerous student years have already completed a guest semester at the respective partner university. The German students are housed in Kibbutz Nir Elijahu .
