The Max Baermann Holding AG is a German magnetic manufacturer based in Wulfshof in Bergisch Gladbach on the grounds of mine Berzelius . The company developed the plastic-bonded permanent magnets and has been manufacturing them for over 80 years.

history

Company founder Max Baermann (February 12, 1903 - April 2, 1984) worked as an employee at Dynamit Nobel in Troisdorf until the beginning of the 1930s . In 1934 he invented - rather by accident - the plastic bonded magnets ( TROMALIT ) consisting of pressed iron - Bakelitpulver existed. He applied for a patent for the invention , which was granted to him in 1938.

In 1935 the inventor founded Max Baermann GmbH in Cologne-Dellbrück . For the Volksempfänger that produced Max Baermann GmbH in addition to the magnetic speaker also Baermannsche plastic housing and for the KdF car an angle drive for the speedometer . During the war years of the Second World War , Max Baermann GmbH produced, among other things, sticky mines and anti-tank weapons . In 1943 the company moved from Cologne-Dellbrück to Wulfshof due to the war. By camouflaging the company, the destruction of the production facilities that were important for the war effort was prevented. Towards the end of the war, the company - together with Dynamit Nobel - also participated in the development of Nitropenta cords for air defense .

After the end of the Second World War , the company mainly worked as a supplier for household appliances, such as washing machines , refrigerators and cookers . In 1956, Max Baermann, who registered 876 patents in his life, invented a flexible magnetic rubber ( TROMAFLEX ) for the General Tire and Rubber Company to be used as a refrigerator door magnet to prevent accidental locking in the refrigerator by the snap locks that were common at the time . Such flexible magnetic rubber is now used as standard in all seals for refrigerator doors.

Subsidiaries and Recent History

In 1962, the son of the company's founder, Horst M. Baermann (born May 28, 1935 in Cologne), joined the company and founded numerous subsidiaries in Germany and abroad, including the Rheinmagnet company in Rösrath in 1966 . In 1979 was in Spartanburg , in the state of South Carolina which Baermann Magnetics Inc . founded. In the 1980s, another field of application - magnetic field therapy - was opened up and permanent magnets for therapeutic purposes ( BIOFLEX ) were developed. In 1984 another company, Anchor Magnets Ltd. , was founded in Sheffield . founded which was sold in 1999. In the 1990s, various joint venture projects were initiated with Indian investors (1992 Magnaplast Technologies Ltd .; 1995 Magnetic Meter Systems ). Early 21st century, the extended Max Baermann GmbH production with a joint venture - the Polyflex Magnets Ltd . - to the Chinese market. On September 21, 2001, the German companies and subsidiaries abroad were merged under the umbrella of Max Baermann Holding AG . 2006 followed near Shanghai , the establishment of the company Baermann magnet Suzhou Co. Ltd. , At the end of 2006 Horst M. Baermann withdrew from the operative business and his son Holger Baermann became CEO of Max Baermann Holding AG on January 1, 2010 .

The holding company today consists of three production facilities for the manufacture of injection molding magnets : Max Baermann GmbH (Bergisch Gladbach), S. Müller GmbH & Co. Werkzeugbau KG ( Neunkirchen-Seelscheid ) and Baermann Magnets Co. Ltd. ( Suzhou , China) as well as Tool Tech GmbH (Neunkirchen), a company that manufactures machines for the production of injection molding magnets, and AES GmbH ( Lindlar ), which manufactures conveyor systems and handling devices.

In 2015 it became known that Max Baermann GmbH will build another production facility in Lindlar.

Product range

For decades, the holding has been one of the leading manufacturers of plastic-bonded permanent magnets, which are mainly used in stepper and micromotors, magnetic filters, fittings, sensors , quartz watches , instruments and peripheral devices . The main customer is the automotive industry. Baermann brake magnets are used in electricity meters . Baermann produced more than 20 million of these for Siemens .

The materials used for the plastic-bonded magnets are barium and strontium ferrites , neodymium-iron-boron and samarium-cobalt .
