Dellbrück ( Kölsch Dellbröck ) is a district on the right bank of the Rhine in Cologne in the Mülheim district .

location

Dellbrück borders in the east on Bergisch Gladbach , in the south on Brück , in the west on Merheim , Holweide and Höhenhaus and in the north on Dünnwald .

history

The prehistory

The earliest settlement of Dellbrück is for the Hallstatt period between 1000 and 500 BC. Evidenced by excavations, with the focus on the Middle and Late Hallstatt Period from 800 to the early La Tène period (around 450 BC). The grave field on the Iddelsfelder Hardt (south of the Thurner Hof to the Ostfriedhof (Cologne) ) was one of the largest and best preserved in the area between Sieg and Wupper. More barrows lay along the mouse path and at Pilzweg. From the same time, racing furnaces were found in the wider area , in which the Hallstatt people smelted the lawn iron stone into iron.

History since the Middle Ages

The district of Thurn was mentioned in a document as early as 1322 as the seat of the “vamme Thurne” family (= from the tower), and in 1413 the Mielenforst estate was a knight's seat . Politically, today's Cologne-Dellbrück district has belonged to the Porz office in the Duchy of Berg since the Middle Ages .

The place Dellbrück emerged from the original districts (Alt) -Dellbrück, Hagedorn, Strunden and Thurn, which belonged to the district of Mülheim since January 27, 1814 due to administrative reform. On June 23, 1905, the municipality of Thurn-Strunden was renamed Dellbrück by the mayor of Merheim under pressure from the district president. The old name Thurn-Strunden is still present today. In the real estate cadastre for the area of the former municipality, the district designation “Thurn-Strunden” is also used, just as the Cologne District Court keeps the land register under this name. Dellbrück was incorporated into Cologne on April 1, 1914 , as part of the Merheim mayor .

Mills on the round

Of the numerous mills on the Strunde that used its water power, four were in Dellbrück, namely the Strunder Mühle , the Hardtmühle , the Thurner Mühle and the Gräfenmühle .

Mining

On the eastern edge of Cologne-Dellbrück, mining has been carried out on lawn iron stone since the middle of the 19th century . The mines Grube Emma , Grube Franconia and Grube Hohenzollern should be mentioned .

Regional 2010

As a regional project in 2010, “RegioGrün”, the Strunde was upgraded as a “cultural and landscape axis” with a continuous path connection. The stream of the Strunde is to be relocated between Hardthofstrasse and Grafenmühlenweg so that the historic mill locations Hardtmühle, Thurner Mühle and Gräfenmühle are no longer to be located on the Strunde. However, this planning is locally controversial.

Fairytale settlement

The fairytale settlement is partly on Dellbrücker area (the other part is in Cologne-Holweide ) . It was built between 1922 and 1929 as part of the city's expansion on the right bank of the Rhine south of Bergisch Gladbacher Strasse. The architects were Manfred Faber (1879–1944, deported and murdered in Auschwitz concentration camp ) and Wilhelm Riphahn . The entire settlement consists of 181 single-family houses, which were built on the former lands of the medieval Iddelsfeld manor and were intended for rent-purchase by its tenants. The name can be found in street names such as Märchenstrasse or Aschenbrödelweg , but is also intended to express the residential reform idea of “living like in a fairy tale”. The settlement implemented ideals of the garden city movement coming from England , the aim of which was to create sufficient living space for working-class families with a garden in which the families could grow vegetables and keep small animals. The houses in the fairytale settlement are almost without exception a listed building . carnival

The largest carnival company is the KG Uhu , whose dance corps is the “Boore Schnäuzer Ballett” (Boore = farmers). The peculiarity of this dance corps is that Tanzmariechen is embodied by a man who is usually taller and stronger than his dance officer . The members all wear a "mustache" (= mustache), tricorn , glasses and frock coat instead of the uniform used in Cologne Carnival, and " Paraplü " (= umbrella) instead of "Knabüs" (= wooden rifle, from "Knallbüchse"). The corps is accompanied by a striped "Pääd" (= horse), an animal parody in which two members of the ballet are. This dance corps satirizes the other Cologne carnival societies. In 1974 and 1999 the KG provided the Cologne triumvirate .
