Brück ( kölsch : Bröck ) is a district of Cologne on the right bank of the Rhine and belongs to the Kalk district .

location

Brück lies on the border with the Bergisches Land and on the border between the lower terrace and the middle terrace in the Cologne Bay . Brück borders the Lustheide and Refrath districts of Bergisch Gladbach in the east, the Königsforst and Rath in the south, Merheim in the west and Dellbrück in the north .

history

The place was created at the intersection of the old trading routes Mauspfad and Brüderstraße . The village of Brück was first mentioned in a document in 1166. At that time, the Altenberg Abbey in Brück owned a farm. This was around 1270 by Count Adolf V . acquired. Since the Middle Ages, the place has belonged politically to the parish Merheim in the Bergisch Amt Porz , Duchy of Berg . The customs post in Brück was first mentioned in 1411. It was leased to various Brücker families. A hospital for the poor was founded as early as 1437 and in 1444 Duke Gerhard II of Jülich and Berg had a chapel built.

With the establishment of the Grand Duchy of Berg (1806) and the reorganization of the administration based on the French model (1808), Brück came to the Rhine department . Since 1815 Brück has belonged to the mayor's office of Merheim in the Mülheim district . In 1864 the new Hubertus Chapel was built. In 1906 Brück was connected to Cologne by a small railway (today's Stadtbahn line 1), which was extended to Bensberg in 1913 . Together with the community of Merheim (rrh.) Brück was incorporated into Cologne in 1914 . In the following years there was a lot of construction activity. So between 1925 and 1940 a settlement was built on the Klausenberg - the first one started on the Brücker Heide . Finally, the Graefenhof settlement was built in 1947/49. In 1965 the foundation stone was laid for the construction of the Konrad-Adenauer-Siedlung in the west of Brück. The new district of Neubrück arose from this new settlement in 1992 .
