The St. Hubertus Church in the Brück district of Cologne is a Roman Catholic church in the Archdiocese of Cologne . It is part of the Catholic Parish Association Brück-Merheim. The church consecrated to St. Hubertus was built in 1930/31.

Location and surroundings

The church is centrally located in the Brück district of Cologne. In the vicinity of the parish church there is the parish hall and the parish office. The building complex also includes a Catholic kindergarten and a library. Opposite the parish church is the St. Vinzenzhaus, a retirement and nursing home.

history

The history of the parish of St. Hubertus begins with the foundation of a chapel in honor of the Holy Mother of God in 1444, which was replaced in 1708 by a chapel dedicated to St. Hubertus and Antonius was consecrated, was replaced. Another new building of the chapel, in the course of which the chapel from 1708 was demolished, was built from 1863 to 1865. The community, which was grouped around the chapel, was raised to a parish in 1889 and separated from the parish of Merheim. The chapel that existed up to that point quickly no longer met the requirements of the parish and planning began for the construction of a new parish church.

At the beginning of the 1930s, 1930/31, today's parish church was built in a modern style according to the plans of the architects Noven and Villach. A hall church made of plastered brick with a gable roof was created. A rectangular choir is attached to the rectangular floor plan in the south, where the high altar was positioned.

In extensive renovation work in the early 1970s, the organ was moved from the gallery in the north to the south choir in the place of the high altar. According to the specifications of the Second Vatican Council , Dieter Boers' new celebration altar was moved into the nave of the church; the altar area was separated from the organ by a half-height wall.

In the course of the amalgamation of parishes into parish associations in the Archdiocese of Cologne, the parishes of St. Hubertus Brück and St. Gereon Merheim were merged into the Brück-Merheim parish association. With only two parishes, this parish association is one of the smaller in the archbishopric.

Architecture and equipment

An oak cross with a bronze body hangs above the altar by Dieter Boers from the 1970s. The body has a cubic shape. The crucifix was designed by Walter Prinz. With a few exceptions, the windows of the church date from the time the church was built.

The jewel of the church is also a statue of the Mother of God from the last quarter of the 15th century.
