Höhenhaus is a district on the right bank of the Rhine in Cologne in the Mülheim district .

location

Höhenhaus borders in the east on the districts of Dünnwald and Dellbrück , in the south on Holweide , in the west on Mülheim and Stammheim .

history

The Höhenhaus, in the sense of " Haus auf der Höhe ", was first mentioned in 1843. A few decades later, it gave its name to the district that was created around it.

Today's district of Cologne-Höhenhaus was created in 1934 from the merging of the districts of Höhenhaus and Höhenfeld, including the peripheral areas of Mülheim. Höhenhaus was a district of Dünnwald until both places were incorporated into Cologne on April 1, 1914.

The Bergische Löwen brewery had existed in Höhenhaus since 1891 and later became a branch of the Gilden-Kölsch . At the corner of Berliner Straße and Flachsroster Weg, it had a floor space of 37,500 m²; the location was shut down in 1956 when production was relocated to the headquarters in Mülheim. Until 1977 they brewed u. a. the bottom-fermented Höhenhaus Pilsener , which was advertised with the slogan "Do you want to get out fresh in the morning / drink Höhenhaus in the evening". This beer was widely used in the Rhineland.

In November 2017, the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger reported that a working group of three local historians (Christopher Ernestus, Marc Jan Eumann and Reimund Haas ) who were active in their free time had been formed to work on the history of Höhenhaus and to write a paper on the occasion of the 175th anniversary to create the first mention. Here, photos and documents as well as memories of contemporary witnesses were also asked. In the same year some of the named had already organized a historical tour of the history of Höhenhaus.
