Dieter Flimm

Dieter Flimm (born April 9, 1939 in Bonn ; † July 23, 2002 in Cologne ) was a German architect and designer , set designer , scenographer , director , musician , composer and university lecturer.

Life

Dieter Flimm, the two years older brother of the theater, film and opera director Jürgen Flimm , grew up in Cologne, studied architecture at the RWTH in Aachen and also drums at the Rheinische Musikhochschule . In 1968 he founded his architecture office after graduating and became known both as an architect and as a jazz drummer through festivals and concert tours. In 1972 he was a member of the Stieldorf planning group in the team for the new building of the Federal Chancellery in Bonn. It was during this time that he became friends with his colleague Wolf Nöhren. From 1974 onwards, Flimm was increasingly active as a stage designer and received orders from theaters in Munich, Zurich, Bremen, Hamburg and Cologne. He now ran his office in Cologne-Dellbrück mainly as a production designer. This was followed by a call to Karlsruhe at the TU for a research project.

In the year before reunification in 1989, Dieter Flimm was the author, director, set designer, choreographer and producer of the music revue Deutschlandlied with 100 performances in Cologne and then tour outfitter of Marius Müller-Westernhagen and Herbert Grönemeyer. This was followed by open-air theater projects on the Rhine-Herne Canal and at the Federal Garden Show in Gelsenkirchen.

In 1995 he was appointed professor for media design in Hanover (today faculty of scenic arts at the University of Hildesheim ) and was visiting professor at the University of Film and Television (HFF) - Potsdam-Babelsberg .

Dieter Flimm died of lung cancer.
