Bernard Droog

Bernard Justus Droog (born January 5, 1921 in Cologne-Dellbrück , † December 22, 2009 in Ede ) was a Dutch actor .

Life

Droog was born in Cologne , where his parents worked as an operetta actor. After finishing school he trained as a laboratory technician before he himself began his career as a stage actor in the Hague theater group of Pierre Balledux in 1945. In 1953 he switched to the Haagse Comedie as a performer, where he made his debut in the theater farce Klijntje Cornelis by Constantijn Huygens . He later got engagements with the Toneelgroep, the Nieuw Rotterdams Toneel, the Zuid Nederlands Toneel and the Haarlems Toneel.

In 1955 Droog began a career as a film actor with the role as a teacher in the film Ciske de Rat , directed by Wolfgang Staudte . This was followed by other roles in films by Georg Jacoby ( Kleren maken de man , 1957), Bert Haanstra ( Fanfare , 1958) and Paul Verhoeven ( Wat Zien Ik !? , 1971) and in the television series Erik of het klein insectenboek by Hank Onrust (1979) based on the book of the same name by Godfried Bomans .

He had other roles in 1958 as Cis van Dove in the Oscar- nominated film Dorp aan de Rivier by Fons Rademakers based on the novel by Antoon Coolen , in 1960 in the film by Bert Haanstra De Zaak MP and in De Overal (1962) about life in Leeuwarden prison during the Second World War . In 1978 he played the druggist Poerstamper in the film Pastorale 1943 by Wim Verstappen and in 1979 again under Haanstra in Een pak slaag based on the book of the same name by Anton Koolhaas.

In addition to his active career as a theater and film actor, from 1959 to 1987 he was a lecturer at the Arnhem Drama School (Arnhemse Toneelschool).

In 1970 he was knighted by the Order of Orange-Nassau for his services and in 1975 he received the silver penny (Zilvere Penning) of the municipality of Arnhem. In addition, he was awarded the Golden Penny of Honor (Goude Erepenning) from the province of Gelderland .
