Zeev Sherf ( Hebrew זאב שרף, German: Se'ew Scherf; * April 21, 1906 in Chernivtsi , Bukowina ; † April 18, 1984 ) was an Israeli politician and minister .

Life

After moving to Israel in 1925, he was active in the Marxist - Zionist movement Poalei Zion and one of the founders and leaders of the Socialist Youth. As such, he was also the organizer of youth camps in Warsaw . In the 1930s he was secretary of the Central Committee (ZK) of the Ha'Poel, the workers' sports association of the Histadrut . During the Second World War between 1940 and 1944 he was a member of the Hagana Command . After the end of the war, he was first secretary of the political department of the Jewish Agency from 1945 to 1947 and then for some time secretary of the position committee that prepared the establishment of an administrative apparatus after the establishment of a state.

After the establishment of the State of Israel, he was Secretary of the Governments of Prime Ministers David Ben Gurion and Moshe Sharet from 1948 to 1957 . He then worked for the Ministry of Finance and as such was responsible for state revenue .

He began his political career with the election of a member of the Knesset on November 22, 1965, where he represented the interests of the Avoda until January 21, 1974 . On November 22, 1966 he was appointed Minister for Trade and Industry by Prime Minister Levi Eschkol and held this office until December 15, 1969. At the same time, he was Minister of Finance from August 5, 1968 to December 15, 1969 . Under Eshkol's successor Golda Meir , he was then housing minister until March 10, 1974.
