Se'ev Boim ( Hebrew זאב בוים; * April 30, 1943 in Jerusalem ; † March 18, 2011 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin ) was an Israeli politician of the Likud and Kadima .

Life

After attending school, he studied history and Israeli literature at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem . After completing his studies, he did his military service in the armed forces and was most recently company commander of a tank company . He then worked as a teacher and rector of a Comprehensive High School in Kirjat Gat and at times also rector of the Jewish - Sephardic School in Mexico .

After his return he got involved in numerous organizations in Kiryat Gat and was chairman of the youth village “Kedma”, chairman of the board of directors of the development company of Kiryat Gat, chairman of the board of directors of the national industrial park of Kiryat Gat and the regional association Lachisch as well as chairman of the municipal environmental quality association from Ashkelon . Between 1983 and 1996 he was mayor of Kirjat Gat.

In June 1996, Boim was elected a member of the Knesset for the first time as a Likud candidate and was initially a member until June 1999. In July 2000 he became a member of the Knesset again and was a member of it until his death. Between 2000 and 2003 he was temporarily also chairman of the Likud parliamentary group .

In March 2003 he was first deputy defense minister in the cabinet of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon , before he was minister for construction and housing and minister for agriculture and rural development between January and May 2006 after a cabinet reshuffle .

During the 16th legislative period he became a member of Kadima, which was founded in 2005, and represented it in the 17th and 18th legislative periods .

In May 2006 he was appointed Minister for Immigration Affairs by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and thus succeeded Tzipi Livni . In a cabinet reshuffle on July 4, 2007, he again took over the office of Minister for Construction and Housing and held this ministerial post until March 31, 2009.

Most recently, he was chairman of the Knesset subcommittee to review the operational readiness of the home front. Boim was also a member of the Board of Trustees of Ben Gurion University of the Negev in Beer Sheva , a member of the Society for Conservation Council and a member of the Friends of Barzelai Hospital in Ashkelon.

Boim died after a long illness of a pancreatic tumor in a hospital in Milwaukee.
