Bafut (own name Fut ) is an eastern grassland language within the bantoid languages that is related to the Bamun language .
Bafut and the other bantoid languages belong to the Niger-Congo language family . The oral tradition of the language traces the dynastic roots down to the Ndobo or Tikari areas. It is spoken by the people of the Bafut subdivision , tuba, in the Mezam division and in the Metchum division in the Northwest Province .
The Bafut language was the official language of the Kingdom of Bafut . It was written down by its spokesman Joseph Mfonyam in 1982 and is therefore listed in SIL International . Since then, some literature has been translated into Bafut, most notably the New Testament in 2000.
