Gideon Patt ( Hebrew גדעון פת; * February 22, 1933 in Jerusalem ; † April 27, 2020 ) was an Israeli politician . He held various ministerial offices in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Life

Gideon Patt was born in Jerusalem during the time of the British Mandate for Palestine . He was initially taught at a religious school and at the Yeshiva Merkas HaRaw Kook . Then he went to the USA, where he worked with Nahum Goldmann . He graduated from New York University with a BA in Economics. He did his military service in the Israeli army with the Nahal . In the parliamentary elections of 1969 he was ranked 27th by his party.

Since the Gahal only won 26 seats, he initially missed entry into parliament , but received his first parliamentary seat as a successor a short time later. In 1973 and 1977 he was Minister in the Begin Cabinet . In 1979 he became Minister of Commerce. After the 1981 elections, he was returned to a ministerial post. In the next electoral term from 1984 he became Minister of Science and Development and in the following electoral term from 1988 he was given the Ministry of Tourism . In 1992 he was re-elected to parliament but was not given a ministerial post because his party was not part of the government. In 1996 he was not re-elected. After retiring from politics, he was appointed President and CEO of the International Office of Israel Bonds .

Patt was married and had three children.
