Joram Aridor (born October 24, 1933 in Tel Aviv ) is an Israeli politician and former minister.

biography

After graduating from Tel Aviv High School , he studied economics , political science and law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem . He then worked as a lawyer .

He began his political career with his election as a member of the Knesset on November 17, 1969, where he represented the interests of the Cherut until November 21, 1988 and then from 1974 of the Likud . From January 1974 to June 1977 he was not only Chairman of the Committee on Internal Affairs and the Environment, but also Chairman of the Subcommittee on Fundamental Rights. At times he was also chairman of the factions of the Cherut and Likud and chairman of the Cherut Secretariat.

On June 4, 1977, he was appointed to the Cabinet as Vice Minister in the Office of Prime Minister Menachem Begin . On January 5, 1981, von Begin was appointed Minister of Communications and, on January 21, 1981, he was also Minister of Finance . A position he also maintained in the subsequent government of Yitzhak Shamir until his resignation because of the cost of the invasion in Lebanon , his failure in the attempt to dollarization due to the weak exchange rate of the shekel , the government deficit and growing inflation on October 15, 1983rd

Between 1990 and 1992 he was Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) . In 2002 he was appointed chairman of the board of the state communications company Bezeq by communications minister Reuven Rivlin . Finally, in February he became chairman of the so-called Aridor Commission, a state commission to support public institutions.
