Eliahu Sasson

Eliahu Sasson ( Hebrew אליהו ששון ; * 1902 in Damascus ; † October 8, 1978 ) was an Israeli politician and diplomat.

Sasson studied at the Université Saint-Joseph in Beirut . In 1927 he emigrated to the British mandate of Palestine . From 1950 to 1952 he was the Israeli envoy to Turkey . Then Sasson was ambassador to Italy from 1953 to 1960 and finally from 1960 to 1961 ambassador to Switzerland .

He returned to Israel in 1961 and was appointed Minister of Post by Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion . In the 1967 general election, Sasson was elected to the Knesset . He kept his cabinet post until January 1967 when he became Minister of Police. In 1969 he was re-elected to the Knesset. In the newly formed government, however, he no longer held a ministerial post. Sasson was a member of the Knesset until 1974.

His son Moshe Sasson was also active in the diplomatic service.
