Elimelech-Shimon Rimalt ( Hebrew אלימלך-שמעון רימלט; * November 1, 1907 in Bochnia , Lesser Poland ; † November 5, 1987 ) was a Zionist activist and Israeli politician.

Life

Elimelech Rimalt attended a cheder , a yeshiva and a Hebrew high school in Krakow . While living in Poland, he was one of the founders of the Hebrew youth organization Bne Akiwa , named after Rabbi Akiba . He continued his studies at the rabbinical seminary in Vienna and obtained the Dr. of philosophy at the University of Vienna , where he was chairman of the Zionist student group. From 1933 to 1938 he was rabbi of the Israelitische Kultusgemeinde Innsbruck , at the end of 1938 he went to Vienna and worked in the local religious community. In 1939 he emigrated to the League of Nations mandate for Palestine , where he worked as headmaster in Ramat Gan . In 1943 he was appointed director of the city's education department and held this office until 1952. He was a member of the Knesset from 1951 to 1977, the General Zionists from 1951 to 1961 , the Miflaga Liberalit Jisra'elit from 1961 to 1965 , the Gachal from 1965 to 1974 and Israeli communications minister from December 15, 1969 to August 6, 1970 , then from 1974 to 1977 member of the Likud .
