Gachal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gachal or Gahal (גח״ל, acronym for Gush Cherut-Liberalim , Hebrew: גוש חרות-ליברלים, literally "Freedom-Liberal Bloc") was the largest right-wing political party alliance in Israel , led by Menachem Begin since it was founded in 1965.

Gahal was formed as an alliance of Cherut and Miflaga Liberalit Jisra'elit at the end of the fifth Knesset term for the Israeli parliamentary election in 1965. This alliance brought together the only two right-wing conservative parties in the Knesset , each with 17 seats. In 1973 the Gachal party alliance was absorbed into Likud .
