Job Kara
Job Kara ( Hebrew אִיּוֹב קָרָא Iyyov Qara , Arabic أيوب قرا, DMG Ayyūb Qarā ; * March 12, 1955 in Dalijat al-Karmel , Israel ) is a Druze Israeli politician. He was a member of the Likud Knesset and from March 31, 2009 to March 18, 2013, Deputy Minister for the Development of the Negev and Galilee . He is opponent of Israel's unilateral disengagement plan , prefers a military solution to Iran , supports the three-state solution and the Israeli settlement building in the West Bank .
Since May 29, 2017, he has been communications minister in the 34th Israeli government under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu .
Life
Beginnings (1996-2006)
In 1996, Kara was in 35th place on the election list of the Likud- Gescher - Tzomet alliance , which received only 32 seats. He urged Likud party leader Ariel Sharon to stand up for an Arab-born representative within the government. Sharon also said that an Arab minister was needed in the government. Kara was elected in the 1999 election, making him the third Druze Knesset member of Likud, after Amal Nasser el-Din ( Hebrew אמל נַסֵּר אֵל דין) and As'ad As'ad ( Hebrew אסעד אסעד). He was appointed President of the Knesset . In the 2003 elections he was confirmed in his mandate and became chairman of the Anti-Drug Committee . Regarding the second intifada , he condemned the Arab Knesset MPs for the agitation.
Kara publicly opposed Israel's unilateral disengagement plan. As a result, he was almost expelled from the Knesset along with Michael Ratzon for "repeated interference" . When Sharon announced his plans to leave the Likud, Kara refused to join the Kadima, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s new party. He criticized the Knesset MPs who had converted to Kadima, in particular Sha'ul Mofas , for correcting the Sharon plan, which was subsequently approved by the cabinet. Kara extolled the "glorious past of Likud" and declared that, despite the split, Likud would return stronger than before. He lost his seat in the 2006 elections when Likud received just 12 seats.
Although he was no longer in the Knesset, he remained in politics. He met with various Hebron residents and criticized the demolition of a Jewish home. He said that Kadima chairwoman Tzipi Livni was "suitable for Hamas".
Activity as minister (2009-2013)
Kara called for unity between the Druze and the Jews in the 2009 elections "to emphasize Zionist similarities ... which have been forgotten in recent years". In doing so, he reminded voters that he was an opponent of Israel's unilateral disengagement plan and made this an integral part of his campaign.
In the 2009 election, Kara was ranked 23rd on Likud's electoral list. When Likud won 27 seats, he entered the Knesset and was then appointed Deputy Minister for the Development of the Negev and Galilee on March 31, 2009 . He is the first non-Jewish Israeli nationalist to receive a ministerial post. Kara opposed the coalition with Kadima , saying that Likud had "no room for traitors".
As deputy minister, Kara regards the lack of population growth among Israelis as a growing threat to the state of Israel. He promoted the development of the Negev and Galilee to encourage Israelis to stay and work there. He campaigned for former Israeli soldiers to be allowed to study for free in the universities in the Negev and Galilee as well as at the new medical school in Galilee.
He also helped build casinos in the Negev. He also sponsored a funding program in the Knesset that trains Druze Israelis to be firefighters who are to be deployed in Jewish settlements in the West Bank. In September 2010, with Kara's help, ZAKA volunteers began to provide rescue services in Jewish settlements in northern Israel inhabited by Israeli Druze and Israeli Arabs. They started with Beit Jann and Yirka . He supports the construction of settlements in the West Bank. During a visit to Machpelah in April 2010, he urged the Israeli government to “ say no to Barack Hussein Obama ” and to build more Jewish settlements in the West Bank. He participated in events celebrating the end of the 10-month stop on the settlement project . A month later he was leading a movement that wanted to prevent Mahmoud Ahmadinejad from visiting Lebanon .
Relations with foreign countries
The Israeli Bedouin of the Tarabin tribe enlisted the support of Kara to secure the release of Uda Tarabin ( Hebrew עוּדָה טָרָאבּין), who was convicted in absentia . For example, Egypt had arrested the Israeli Bedouin Uda Tarabin and sentenced him to 15 years imprisonment for spying on Israel. Kara also led a group of Druze, Bedouin, and Muslims who met with Gilad Shalit's family in support of Shalit's release from Hamas. Kara met with the Turkish Ambassador to Israel , Ahmet Oğuz Çelikkol , in March 2010 to improve Israeli-Turkish relations. At the meeting, he described Turkey as a "proven" friend of Israel. Relationships deteriorated rapidly after the Ship-to-Gaza incident, however .
Kara also opposed the Blue Line , which should run through the middle of Ghajar , because many of the residents of Ghajar work on both sides of the border fence in Israel and have Israeli citizenship, and therefore compared the Blue Line to the Berlin Wall .
In 2010 Kara helped improve economic and humanitarian aid between Israel and Syria. So Druze farmers on the Golan were finally allowed to get water from Syria and export thousands of tons of apples every year. In addition, for the first time in decades, Druze were allowed to visit their relatives in Syria and have organ transplants carried out there. He has also organized funerals for families between Syria, Lebanon and Golan. Kara hopes that these "ruptures in the thick wall between Israel and Syria" will one day lead to real peace negotiations between the two countries, or at least to the removal of bureaucratic hurdles that hinder humanitarian aid between Israel and Syria.
Kara also called for the Golan to be cleared of mines, stating that they were dangerous for travelers and unnecessary for the defense of Israel. When some European politicians visited Israel, Kara and other Knesset members made Europeans aware of the dire financial situation of the Israeli displaced persons from Gaza (as a result of the Sharon Plan).
Kara visited Austria in December 2010 and met Heinz-Christian Strache , the party leader of the FPÖ, and praised him at a press conference as part of his fight against terrorism as a “true friend of Israel”. The Jews of Austria then criticized the meeting in a letter to the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu . The subject of the complaint was the praise and respect that Kara showed to the FPÖ and party members. In view of the anti-Semitic remarks of the FPÖ and their praise for the Nazi regime of the Third Reich, this is particularly reprehensible. Israel then cut back its diplomatic relations with Austria when the FPÖ entered the Austrian government. Kara also met Patrik Brinkmann , a former member of the right-wing extremist German People's Union .
At a meeting on development aid for Nigeria in London in February 2011 , Suleiman Alhariri - head of a delegation from South Sudan - invited Kara to visit Juba and, in his capacity as Israel's deputy minister, offered him the opportunity to establish economic and diplomatic relations with the newly established State of South Sudan. Kara stated that "his loyalty to the State of Israel [...] was due to his belief in his right to exist". He sees no alternative because it is "the only island of reason in the Middle East, where democracy exists for all citizens and where the rights of citizens are more respected than in any other place".
Kara also led a delegation of Jewish, Muslim, Druze and Christian religious representatives to discuss interreligious relations in Istanbul . The TV show host was Harun Yahya . The delegation presented a list of Jewish religious sites in Syria that were threatened by the Syrian civil war and should therefore be protected.
Political positions
Kara is known as a loyal Conservative in the Knesset, the view of the " hawks " (hawkish) the Zionists represents. He is an opponent of the Sharon Plan and opposed the stopping of settlement construction in 2009/2010. He supports the faction of Moshe Feiglin Manhigut Jehudit (מַנְהִיגוּת יְהוּדִית "Jewish dominant culture") within Likud . He also spoke out in favor of the death penalty as part of the fight against terrorism.
Gaza
During the period in which Israel's unilateral disengagement plan was to be implemented, Kara asked Prime Minister Ariel Sharon not to assign Druze soldiers any tasks related to the withdrawal as long as the Druze were against the withdrawal and wanted nothing to do with it. In an interview with WorldNetDaily , Kara stated, “The withdrawal will have dire consequences for Israeli security. As soon as Israel leaves Gaza, Hamas will control the country and use it to launch more attacks against Israel. ”He was also threatened with expulsion from the Knesset when he tried to prevent the Sharon Plan when the majority did Approved by the Knesset. The Israeli media called him the "Prophet of the Furies ". Years earlier he opposed the military withdrawal from Lebanon as part of the 1982 Lebanon War and warned that Hezbollah would gain control in the absence of an Israeli presence.
After the Ship-to-Gaza incident , Kara spoke to the leading mufti in Turkey. He told the Mufti that Israel had conducted the operation lawfully and humanely, and presented facts that should support his statements. He also said that "Israel is the most humanitarian country in the Middle East" and "has never opposed Gaza's humanitarian aid". However, the flotilla organizers intended to provoke Israel. He asked the Mufti to preach brotherhood between Israel and Turkey, "that there are no winners in war."
In an interview conducted by TV show master Harun Yahya , Kara stated that flotillas are allowed to carry humanitarian aid, not weapons. Kara said Israel wanted to work with Turkey to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Iran
Kara preferred a military solution to Iran and assured that other Muslim nations would passively support an Israeli military strike against Iran.
In April 2010, Kara declared that he was approached by an Israeli woman of Persian-Jewish origin. She was supposed to ask for asylum in Israel on behalf of an Iranian nuclear scientist. Kara replied that he would help.
When Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wanted to visit Lebanon, Kara organized an event where 2,000 blue and white balloons would rise upon Ahmadinejad's arrival. He explained that "the balloons symbolize the fact that the Jewish people had found exile here for 2000 years and were not going anywhere else". Kara also said that even as a Gentile he would admire Israel's freedom and democracy, adding that if there weren't any Israelis in the region, the entire Middle East would look like the Middle East and Iran. Kara said that he had sent a letter to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in which he had expressed "the desire for peace of the Israeli nation" and also "will to defend itself".
Upon Ahmadinejad's arrival, he criticized the Israeli government for its inaction and called Ahmadinejad "a worldwide catastrophe", making it clear that Israel wanted peace but not war. He also warned that Mahmoud Ahmadineschad wanted to restore the Persian empire , with Lebanon as an army base.
Arab-Israeli Conflict and Peace
Kara believes that Israel “has no one to make peace with” and that all peace partners aim to weaken Israel's status quo. He noted that Israelis would think like Europeans and therefore could not understand the thoughts of the Arabs. He criticized the Oslo peace process because it gave "the criminal Palestinian leadership " from Lebanon and Tunisia the right to control the former Israeli areas such as Judea, Samaria and Gaza. "
In July 2010, Kara warned the State of Israel not to be deceived by Obama's openly shown sympathy for Israel. Kara stated that Obama “doesn't sound bad now because he needs Jewish votes and money. However, I will never forget the pressure he put on Netanyahu, nor the stress I saw on the Prime Minister when he came back from Washington. "
A few days later, in an interview, he endorsed the three-state solution by saying that Egypt should regain control of Gaza. He stated that the Arabs want a restoration of the situation before the Six Day War , when Gaza was still part of Egypt. Kara also mentioned that it would be beneficial for the security of Egypt to finally eliminate Iranian influence in Gaza. In an interview, Kara remarked that "in all of history there has never been a state of Palestine ". He suggested that Jordan , where 90% of the Palestinians live, should take over administrative sovereignty over Arab cities in the West Bank, while Israel should control the defense, capitals and large areas of the territory.
During the forest fire in Israel in 2010 , Kara declared that the forest fire was "a terrorist act" in the form of arson and said that the perpetrators like Adolf Eichmann should be executed. Some of the 41 victims who died in the conflagration were Druze.
In 2011, Kara and his party colleague Arieh Eldad met with Glenn Beck . Eldad stated that there was a Palestinian state in Jordan. In response, Kara added that "the world doesn't understand that there are already two states here, and they want three states now. There have never been Palestinians in this area." At the same meeting, Kara stated that Zionism was in accordance with the Druze tradition because they were both descendants of Jitro , and that they were "commanded to preserve the land of Israel for the people of Israel".
At the first international conference on regional cooperation in Tel Aviv, Kara suggested that Israel would be more likely to work with business people than with the Palestinian Authority .
Israeli settlement construction
He is a staunch supporter of Israeli settlement construction in the West Bank and spoke at an event that celebrated the end of the temporary construction freeze. He criticized the construction freeze as being unhelpful, neither for Israel nor for the Palestinians, and said that the attack on Jewish settlers in August 2010 showed that the construction freeze was only a "policy of appeasement " and was not working.
At a topping-out ceremony for a newly built house in the West Bank , Kara declared: "The expulsion of the Jews from Gush Katif was unsuccessful, the expulsion of the Israeli army from Lebanon was unsuccessful, and the temporary halt to construction of Israeli settlements was unsuccessful."
Kara attended the Israeli version of the American tea party protests with fellow Likud MPs and party members. They called on Obama not to blackmail Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu any more. The Israeli Prime Minister should maintain his position and uphold Jewish rights and values.
2010, Kara attended an event to mark the opening of the Rewawa settlement ( Hebrew רְבָבָה), an Israeli settlement of 250 families in the West Bank , between Barkan ( Hebrew בַּרְקָן) and Karnei Shomron ( Hebrew קַרְנֵי שׁוֹמְרוֹן) (lit. "Sunbeams from Samaria "). The event was also attended by Christian sympathizers. He greeted the tourists and said: "I say to all non-Jews who are here: I am also not a Jew, but in spirit I am very Jewish and very Zionist, and so you are! Good for you that you are here for Israel to support."
In 2011, however, he abstained when a motion was tabled by National Union Knesset members to strengthen the sovereignty of the Israeli settlements in the West Bank.
