Arieh Eldad (2009)

Arieh Eldad ( Hebrew אריה אלדד, * May 1, 1950 in Tel Aviv ) is an Israeli doctor and politician who was a member of the Knesset for the secular right-wing Hatikva party , which is a member of the National Union , from 2003 to 2013 . On November 13, 2012 he founded the right-wing extremist party Otzma LeJisra'el together with the Kahanist Michael Ben-Ari .

Life

Arieh Eldad is married with five children. His father Israel Eldad was a well-known Israeli intellectual and a former leader of the Lechi underground organization .

Eldad lives in the Israeli settlement of Kfar Adumim and is Brigadier General of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Medical career

Eldad is Professor and Head of the Plastic Surgery and Burn Department at Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem . He studied medicine at Tel Aviv University , where he received his doctorate. He served as a senior medical officer and senior commander in the IDF Medical Force for 25 years, attaining the rank of Tat Aluf (Brigadier General).

Political career

Eldad was first elected to the Knesset in 2003 from the National Union list. Before the implementation of the unilateral disengagement plan in August 2005 , which included the withdrawal of Israel from the Gaza Strip and some settlements in the north of the West Bank , Eldad was the only MP who called for non-violent civil disobedience as a tactic in the dispute with the government. In the course of this, he ran a few hundred kilometers from the now vacated municipality of Sa Nur in the north of the West Bank to Newe Dekalim to draw attention to the resistance to the Israeli withdrawal plan.

In November 2007, he announced the formation of a new secular party on the right-wing political spectrum called Hatikva. Finally, the party took part in the 2009 elections as a faction of the National Union , with Eldad in third place on the Alliance list.

In 2008, he filed a motion in the Knesset that the Arab residents of Hebron should evacuate the city to "protect the Jews of Hebron". However, the proposal was rejected.

Eldad's 2009 proposal to give the Palestinians of the West Bank Jordanian citizenship sparked a formal protest by the Jordanian Foreign Minister, Nasir Juda .

On November 13, 2012, Eldad and Michael Ben-Ari from the Chasit Jehudit Le'umit party founded the right-wing extremist Otzma LeJisra'el party , which was later renamed Otzma Jehudit .

Political positions

Eldad is a revisionist Zionist and supporter of the ideas of the Zionist writer Vladimir Zeev Jabotinsky . Eldad regards it as the right of the Jews to live in any part of Eretz Israel , including the West Bank, East Jerusalem and on the Golan Heights. He rejects any relinquishment of Israel's sovereignty in favor of the PLO . He is against the establishment of a Palestinian-Arab state west of the Jordan River and described the possibility of doing so as a catastrophe. The creation of a Palestinian state in the West Bank would, according to Eldad, lead to a Hamas- run center of terror. He also doubts that there will ever be peace between the State of Israel and the Arabs.

During Mahmoud Ahmadinezhad's 2010 visit to Lebanon , he stated:

“The story would be different if a Jewish soldier had successfully eliminated Hitler in 1939 . If Ahmadinejad is in the crosshairs of an IDF rifle when he comes to us to throw stones at us, he is not allowed to return alive. "
("History would have been different if in 1939 some Jewish soldier would have succeeded in taking Hitler out. If Ahmadinejad will be in the crosshairs of an IDF rifle when he comes to throw rocks at us, he must not return home alive.")
