Kalman Kahana ( Hebrew קלמן כהנא* May 31, 1910 in Brody ; † August 20, 1991 ) was an Israeli politician, vice minister and journalist and a signatory of the Israeli Declaration of Independence . He was the brother of Yitzchak Kahan , a former judge and President of the Supreme Court .

Kahana studied philosophy, Semitic studies, history and education at the Humboldt University in Berlin and at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg , where he received his doctorate in philosophy . He received his seminary as a rabbi at the Rabbinical Seminary for Orthodox Judaism in Berlin, which is also called the Hildesheim Rabbinical Seminary after Esriel Hildesheimer . In addition, he was also the head of the city's student organization Jahadut Charedit ( Hebrew יַהֲדוּת חֲרֵדִית) and a member of the Aguda youth movement .

In 1938 Kahana emigrated to Palestine, where he stayed at the Kibbutz Chafetz Chaim ( Hebrew חָפֵץ חַיִּים, lit. Wish for life) in Schefela . There he was editor of the newspaper Scha'arim .

As a Knesset member of the Poalei Agudat Jisra'el , Kahana has been appointed Deputy Minister of Education several times . He held this office from November 4, 1951 to August 15, 1955 and from November 29, 1961 to November 22, 1965 and from January 17, 1966 to December 15, 1969.
