Mordechai Namir
Mordechai Namir ( Hebrew מרדכי נמיר, born as Mordechai Nemirovsky in Hebrew מרדכי נמירובסקי; * February 23, 1897 in Nemyriw ; † February 22, 1975 ) was an Israeli politician who was Minister of Labor as a deputy to the Mapai from June 19, 1956 to December 17, 1959 . He was married to Ora Namir .
Life
He studied at a cheder , and then went to Odessa University , where he studied law and economics. In 1924 he was arrested by the Soviet authorities for his work for Zionism . Eventually he immigrated to Palestine as part of the Aliyah . From 1926 to 1930 he was secretary of the Achdut haAwoda . From 1951 to 1969 he was a Knesset member of the Mapai and from 1956 to 1959 Minister of Labor.
