Shalom Simchon ( Hebrew שלום שמחון, Born December 7, 1956 in Kfar Saba ) is an Israeli politician. He was elected to the Knesset for the first time in 1996 , initially for the Avoda , and since 2011 he has been a candidate for the Ha'Atzma'ut . From 2001 to November 2002 he was Minister of Agriculture and from January 2005 to November 2005 he was Environment Minister under the government of Ariel Sharon . Under Ehud Olmert , Shalom Simchon was reappointed Minister of Agriculture, a position he held throughout the government from 2006 to 2009. Under Benjamin Netanyahu , he initially retained this ministerial post, but was appointed Minister of Trade and Industry in January 2011 . Since the Ha'Atzma'ut did not run for parliamentary elections in Israel in 2013 , Simchon has not been a member of the Knesset since March 2013. He was also Minister for Minorities in the Israeli Cabinet. After his military service, he studied social sciences and worked as a social worker. Today he lives in Even Menachem (אֶבֶן מְנַחֵם) in the north-west of Maʿalot-Tarshiha .
