The TSV Gerbrunn is a sports club from the Lower Franconian town of Gerbrunn . With around 1350 members, it is one of the largest sports clubs in the Würzburg district. In addition to the formerly successful football department, the club also offers badminton, athletics, triathlon, table tennis, gymnastics, hiking and volleyball. Affiliated is the Gerbrunn jester guild and there is also an arts department.

history

The club was originally founded as a gymnastics club. The football department, which was added in the 1920s, only remained active in sports for decades at the Würzburg district level. In 2002, the former Bundesliga player Martin Schneider was hired as a player-coach, and the former Nuremberg professional player Jörg Dittwar came as his assistant . The sporting success in the Bayernliga did not materialize and the club took last place in the final table. TSV Gerbrunn performed more successfully in the Bavarian Toto Cup : when they made it to the final, they qualified for the first round of the DFB Cup .

The Bayernliga squad left the club and the only players available were those of the second team in the district class. The new club chairman Günther Brückner decided to withdraw the uncompetitive team from the state league and to initiate a new structure in the district class.

On July 18, 2003, this district class team played the final of the Bavarian Toto Cup against TSV Aindling and lost 0:14. Six weeks later, the now ninth division team, as the lowest-class club in the history of the DFB Cup, competed in the first round against second division club SV Wacker Burghausen and was also defeated 0:14, the second-highest defeat in the history of the cup.
