history

Foundation and first years

The SV Donaustauf was founded on June 1st, 1913 by the initiators Max Bachmann and Karl Danzer in the Gasthaus Rühr (today: Forsters Posthotel) in Donaustauf. 22 men appeared at the founding meeting, and the innkeeper Ernst Rühr senior became the first board member. elected. The SVD's first soccer field was built right on the banks of the Danube, where the boat dock is today. However, SV Donaustauf did not play its first official soccer game until 1920, when they won against Regenstauf 24-0 thanks to an excellent performance . In 1923, ten years after the SVD was founded, the soccer department separated from the tower club and founded FC Donaustauf. The footballers played under this name until all clubs in Donaustauf were banned in 1945. It was not until long after the ban that a few young Donaustaufers founded a football team again, which more and more members of the two previous clubs, football club and gymnastics club, joined. And so it came about that in 1946 the footballers again ran under the name of SV Donaustauf and in 1948 they fought for the first time to be promoted to the then A-Class, but only narrowly failed in the decider in Wörth an der Donau against SV Pfatter.

New home and promotion to the district league

At Pentecost 1985, the new sports facility on Regensburger Strasse with two soccer fields was inaugurated. A grass field was created for the games and a hard court for the training units, but this was also converted into a grass field in 1997. For the inauguration of the new underground, a test match between the B-youth of SV Donaustauf and that of FC Bayern Munich took place. At the beginning of the 1990s, the SVD managed to sign the Jahn legend and Donaustaufer veteran Hans Melzl as a player-coach and soon caused a sensation in the then A-Class. Led by Melzl, the young team with talents like Flöter, Seidl and Semmelmann won the championship in the 1993/1994 season and was promoted to the district league for the first time. After the greatest success in the club's history at the time, they stayed in the league for the next four years until they had to accept relegation back to the district league in the 1998/1999 season. However, the downward trend continued and after the departure of coach Melzl and some top performers, some of whom switched to higher-class leagues, SV Donaustauf crashed into the district class at that time in the following years.

With the return of Hans Melzl to the coaching bench, success was brought back to Donaustauf. He and his team made it through from the district class to the district league and in 2003 brought the SVD to the top division of the Upper Palatinate for the second time. In the 2003/2004 season, however, they could not keep themselves in the league and were relegated to the district league after only one year. In this one, however, was always one of the top teams in the following nine years and failed in 2006 under Hans Melzl and in 2010 under Thomas Semmelmann only barely in the relegation to return to the district league. In the 2013/2014 season it was that time again and SV Donaustauf became champions of the district league for the third time and rose again to the district league, which they held in a strong league with an eighth place in the following season.

Promotion to the Bayern League

In the summer of 2015, a new sponsor was won for SV Donaustauf in Matthias Klemens. The real estate entrepreneur, who was chairman of the board of SSV Jahn Regensburg from 2010 to 2011 , was a player at SV Donaustauf during his active time and was a member of the promotion team from 2003. In June 2016 it was decided to outsource the soccer department of the district league club to SV Donaustauf Fußball GmbH & Co. KG , with Klemens as managing director. The general assembly agreed and in 2017 the GmbH of the meanwhile state league club was founded. The main shareholder is SV Donaustauf e. V., the remaining 49 percent holds Klemens' real estate company.

The SVD achieved its first promotion to the regional league in the second year of its membership in the regional league under coach Thomas Semmelmann. The team secured the championship with a 2: 1 home win on the penultimate match day of the 2015/2016 season in front of a record crowd of over 2,000 spectators against direct competitors and later runner-up SV Neukirchen at the Holy Blood.

For the first season in the regional league, the Donaustaufers were able to set up a large budget that was similar to that of a top Bayern league team. This made it possible to sign soccer world champion Klaus Augenthaler as a coach. In the first season in the Landesliga Mitte, the Augenthaler-Elf reached 2nd place and failed in the promotion relegation to the Bayernliga at SB Chiemgau Traunstein . Klaus Augenthaler's contract was not extended after the missed march through, Karsten Wettberg was signed as the new head coach for the 2017/2018 season . However, after three defeats in a row, he had to give up his position again after the 5th game day. From then on, the captain Andreas Vilsmaier and once more Hans Melzl took over the coaching office and led the team to 9th place at the end of the season.

For the 2018/2019 season, an above-average squad of players was put together and Sepp Schuderer, an icon in Upper Palatinate football, was hired for the position of head coach. After an outstanding season with only two defeats and finally 84 points after 34 games, the champions of the Landesliga Mitte celebrated their first promotion to the Bayernliga . Since the 2019–21 season , SV Donaustauf has played in the Bayernliga Süd. After only five game days with a yield of four points, the promotion coach was dismissed due to unsuccessfulness. Franz Koller has been his successor since August 19, 2019.
