Christoph Moritz (born January 27, 1990 in Düren ) is a German football player . He mainly plays in defensive midfield , but can also hold both outside positions in midfield and act as a right full-back.

Club career

Beginnings

Moritz began his career in 1994 with Viktoria Arnoldsweiler , an association from the Arnoldsweiler district of Düren . From 2006 he played for the youth teams of TSV Alemannia Aachen , with whose B-youth he was 2007 Middle Rhine Cup winner. Moritz had his first two appearances in the men's division in the 2008/09 season for the 2nd team of Aachen in the NRW League , at that time one of ten top leagues as the fifth highest division in Germany.

Bundesliga

For the 2009/10 season he moved to FC Schalke 04 . At Schalke he was intended for the second team playing in the Regionalliga West . On the first day of the Bundesliga season he made his debut in the professional team against 1. FC Nürnberg on the starting line-up. On the second day of the match, he scored his first Bundesliga goal against VfL Bochum . Moritz established himself as a regular player and was used in the defensive and offensive right midfield.

In the 2010/11 season he came to fewer missions due to injuries. He also had no fixed position, but jumped in where a replacement was lacking. He made his first international competitive game in the UEFA Champions League game against Olympique Lyon . During this season he won his first title with the DFB Cup .

In the 2011/12 season he was almost out of the first half of the season due to an injury. On December 1, 2011, he made his first UEFA Europa League game in the win against Steaua Bucharest .

Due to repeated injuries and in view of strong competition, such as newcomer Roman Neustädter , he only made short appearances or appearances in the second team in the first half of the 2012/13 season . In December 2012, he announced that he would not extend his contract, which would expire in summer 2013.

On February 5, 2013 Moritz signed a contract with 1. FSV Mainz 05 with a term from July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2017. During the first half of the 2013/14 season , he did not get beyond the role of a supplementary player. Thanks to his flexibility in midfield, he was part of Thomas Tuchel's regular staff during the second half of the season and scored two goals. For the 2014/15 season he had a regular place in midfield, but fell out of the rest of the first half of the season due to back problems. He played a total of 42 Bundesliga games for Mainz 05, in which he scored two goals.

2nd Bundesliga

For the 2016/17 season , Moritz moved to the second division club 1. FC Kaiserslautern . In the 2017/18 season he was relegated to the third division with 1. FC Kaiserslautern . His contract ran until 2018.

For the 2018/19 season Moritz moved to Hamburger SV on a free transfer . He received a contract with the Bundesliga relegated until June 30, 2020 and met coach Christian Titz , under whom he had already taken private training. At the end of October 2018, Titz was replaced by Hannes Wolf .

Since Moritz was mainly used as a substitute (one starting eleven, 10 substitutions) and another player, Berkay Özcan, was signed for the central midfield, he switched to league rivals SV Darmstadt 98 on loan at the end of January 2019 until the end of the season . In his competitive debut for the lilies , an away defeat at MSV Duisburg , he made it 3-2 with his first goal for Darmstadt. On his fourth assignment, Moritz suffered a shoulder injury and was out for a month. In total, Moritz came to 11 second division appearances in which he scored a goal.

For the 2019/20 season Moritz returned to Hamburger SV, who had missed direct promotion in his absence. Under the head coach Dieter Hecking was Adrian fine set in the defensive midfield. Moritz made 8 appearances in the second division (4 times from the start) and was sometimes not part of the matchday squad. He also played a regional league game with the second team. As in the previous season, HSV missed the promotion in 4th place, whereupon he left the club when his contract ended.

National team

Moritz was in the provisional squad of the German U-20 national team for the 2009 Junior World Cup , but received no approval from his club for the tournament. On November 13, 2009, he played his first game for the German U-20 national team. He scored his first goal in the game against Austria. On September 3, 2010 he made his debut in the German U-21 national team against the Czech Republic on the starting line-up. For the play-off games against the U-21 in Switzerland for 2013 UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Israel , he was first nominated for almost two years for the German U-21 national team. In the 1: 3 away win in the second leg against Switzerland, he played the entire 90 minutes of play on the double six at Sebastian Rudy's side . Despite a few games with his club, he was nominated for the finals of the U-21 European Football Championship 2013 in Israel by Rainer Adrion for the German national team. He was only on the bench against the Netherlands . Because of a febrile gastrointestinal disease , he was out for the rest of the group stage. Since Germany did not qualify for the knockout phase and was eliminated in the group phase, he was not used at the European Championship.

Style of play

Moritz is considered to be serene and calm; He is certified as having no frills with secure passes and great stamina.
