Günter Mast

Günter Mast (born July 4, 1926 in Braunschweig ; † February 28, 2011 in Südheide ) was a German manager .

Life

Mast grew up in Braunschweig and Wolfenbüttel . His father emigrated to Brazil in 1936 because of an extramarital affair with a Jewish woman , while the 10-year-old Günter stayed with his mother in Wolfenbüttel with his brother. After graduation in 1944 at the High School School Partner and the military service Günter Mast studied economics in Hamburg. He then worked briefly for the finance department of the Braunschweiger Zeitung .

After he had surprisingly withdrawn a lawsuit on behalf of his father against his brother Curt Mast because of withholding shares in the company's profits, he joined his uncle's company in 1952 at the age of 26. After successful work as managing director of Mast-Jägermeister AG , he became chairman of the supervisory board of the company in 1987, whose best-known product is the herbal liqueur Jägermeister . In 1997 he retired from the company. Mast never held a share in the company.

Mast became known as a sponsor of Eintracht Braunschweig and through Jägermeister advertising in professional sports and in the media. In the second half of the 1972/73 season , the Eintracht players wore jerseys with the Jägermeister Hubertushirsch and the lettering on the chest for the first time . Since then, this has been considered to be the introduction of jersey advertising in the Bundesliga. From 1983 to 1986, Mast also assumed the presidency of the association. He also wrote the idea for the well-known advertising slogan “I drink Jägermeister because ...”.

Mast lived on a farm in Lenggries for over 30 years , and he also owned an estate near Celle . In addition to hunting, he also pursued the timber industry . His second marriage was to the veterinarian Irma Schütt-Mast, who comes from Hanover . His first marriage has three children.

Günter Mast died on February 28, 2011 at the age of 84 as a result of a stroke in the village of Lutterloh in the municipality of Südheide.
