Lutterloh is a village in the municipality of Südheide in Lower Saxony , about 9 km east of Hermannsburg and 5 km west of Unterlüß . In the village with the districts of Funkturm, Neu-Lutterloh, Schröderhof and Schafstall live 321 inhabitants.

geography

The Weesener Bach flows through the village, the entire course of which with its edge area, a total of 348 hectares , was placed under nature protection in 1999 .

To the east of Lutterloh is the "Heide am Schillohsberg". It has an area of about 73 ha and was part of the nature reserve Heideflächen middle Lüßplateau . The area has been protected since July 30, 2019 by the new nature reserve " Heiden und Magerrasen in der Südheide " (LÜ 334). Immediately to the north of the village is the "Heide area am Weesener Weg" with a size of about 11 hectares. It alone still forms the nature reserve Heideflächen middle Lüßplateau.

history

Based on information in old chronicles, it is assumed that Lothar III. , known as Lothar von Süpplingenburg , was born in Lutterloh in 1075 or earlier. He was king (1125–1137) and emperor (1133–1137) in the Holy Roman Empire .

The old "Bünting Chronicle" reports about it:

" His father, Earl Gebhardt the other, is in 1075 at the Battle of Negelstedt (known as the Battle of Homburg on the Unstrut) against the Vierden Emperor Henry served, umbkommen in battle. A few days for the same battle, Hertzog Lutther zu Lutterloh was born in the Lüneburg countryside not far from the city of Zell in this world. Hence the place afterwards was freed from him and all complaints removed. In the government of Duke Ernsten (the confessor) of Lüneburg, this freedom wanted to abolish a bailiff and make the peasants serviceable ... "

The tax-free Behrensche Hof actually existed in Lutterloh. The historical researchers assume, however, that an illegitimate son of the emperor Lothar III. Has been the owner of the farm.

The Welfenmuseum is owned by Lothar's font. However, there is evidence that this was not created until a few centuries later.

The painter Gustav Koken , who often stays in the Südheide for his landscapes , paints the picture “ Hof bei Lutterloh ” here. This painting was given to Princess Maria-Luise of Hanover-Cumberland on her wedding to Prince Maximilian of Baden .

In the course of the establishment of the Bergen military training area , the resettlement of the people living in the Heidmark took place from summer 1935 to May 1936 and almost the entire area was cleared. The Meier family, owners of the Berghof in the former municipality of Hartem , in Ostheidmark in the old district of Fallingbostel , were relocated here to Lutterloh and are now running a new farm here.

Old mail

The Schafstall settlement is located 3.5 km south-east of the town as the crow flies . Here Stechinelli set up a post office with a saddle yard in 1682 , after he had been given the post of the Guelph duchies four years earlier . The post road Hanover – Lüneburg led from Hanover via Engensen , Celle , Garßen , Rebberlah , Schafstall, Dreilingen , Groß Süstedt , Ebstorf to Lüneburg . The road had been a freight and cart lane since the Middle Ages. Horse and carriage mail has been using this road since 1641.

The Danish poet Jens Immanuel Baggesen wrote in 1794 on the occasion of his trip through Germany, Switzerland and France a. a .:

We had hardly covered half a mile beyond Schaafsthal ... The actually desolate and sad part of the way from Lüneburg to Celle begins here. Sand, heath and moor, surrounded by everlasting fir and spruce forests, is everything you discover. Not a single roof - no water - not a person - not an animal - not even the air - if I take out a terrible number of ravens ... "

After a new road was built between Celle and Uelzen , the post office in Schafstall was abandoned in 1795 and relocated to Eschede .

Atomic reprocessing plant

In 1972, on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Research, 26 salt domes were examined for their suitability as a landfill for radioactive waste. In February 1976 it became known that the then Prime Minister of Lower Saxony , Ernst Albrecht , had proposed three locations for the nuclear reprocessing plant envisaged in the nuclear program , which should also include a repository in a salt dome.

In addition to Lutterloh, Wahn (Emsland) and Lichtenhorst were then shortlisted as locations. In Hermannsburg, Unterlüß, Eschede and Celle, citizens' initiatives against nuclear facilities emerged during this time, the most important of which was BI Südheide. The three initially planned locations have all been discarded. The geologists later recommended Gorleben for the facilities for interim storage , further treatment and possible final storage of radioactive waste .

politics

The place used to belong to the community of Weesen . As part of the regional reform in Lower Saxony, Lutterloh was incorporated into the Unterlüß community in 1973, while Weesen was included in the Hermannsburg community . With the merger of Unterlüß with the neighboring municipality of Hermannsburg on January 1, 2015, the place became part of the municipality of Südheide .

The local council of Lutterloh consists of five local council members. Heinrich-Friedrich Meyer (CDU) is the local mayor.
