Beckedorf is part of the municipality of Südheide in the northern district of Celle . It is located on the western edge of the Südheide Nature Park , in the Lüneburg Heath , around one kilometer southwest of the main town of Hermannsburg, and currently has around 610 inhabitants. The name Beckedorf means "Dorf an der Beke" (by the brook). In old records, the village names also include Beketorpe, Bekendorpe or Beckedorp.
history
Northwest of Beckedorf, on the Lührsberg , an elevation 77 m above sea level and about 500 m wide, was founded in 1936 by Dr. Hans Piesker , an archaeologist from Hermannsburg , discovered a settlement of the funnel beaker culture (approx. 4200–2800 BC). From the originally 30,000 square meter settlement, numerous post and settlement pits, but also several house floor plans, could be exposed. The houses were almost six meters long and were buried between 0.80 meters and 1.40 meters in the ground. They had wicker walls thrown at them with clay . In addition, arrowheads , scrapers, a spearhead and fragments of hatchets made of flint stones were found and shards of vessels were excavated. The discovery of spindle whorls made it possible to prove that wool or vegetable fibers were also processed here.
The other partly still preserved barrows in the area, the barrows near Wohlde , the burial mound field of Bonstorf and the large stone grave near Dohnsen from the Neolithic , testify that there was settlement here before and during the Bronze Age .
The first written mention of Beckedorf is from the year 1235, in a document that is in the archive of the Walsrode monastery . It is mentioned here that Count Siegfried von Osterburg handed over some houses to the monastery, which had previously been a fief of the now deceased knight Dietrich von Beckedorpe.

On January 1, 1973 Beckedorf became part of the municipality of Hermannsburg in the course of the Lower Saxony regional and administrative reform .
With the merger of Hermannsburg with the neighboring community of Unterlüß on January 1, 2015, Beckedorf became a village of the Südheide community .
The local council of Beckedorf consists of five local council members. The local mayor is Henrik Lange. .
Economy and Transport
The place was shaped by the railway. The railway line Celle – Soltau of the Osthannoverschen Eisenbahnen runs through the place and the line to Munster branches off in Beckedorf (see also Kleinbahn Celle-Soltau, Celle-Munster ). Passenger traffic by rail was partially discontinued in 1970 and completely from 1976, freight traffic continues to be severely restricted. The Munster direction is primarily used for military traffic to the Munster military training area and the Soltau direction for transport to the Bergen military training area.
Today we find several farms in Beckedorf. On some of them there are still stair storages from the 19th century. A small house is also partially preserved in its old condition. Farm workers who did their work on the farm and were allowed to live in the house for a low rent, or sometimes rent-free, were referred to as "houselands" .
The 6.7 km long Hasselbach flows through the village, which rises northwest of Dohnsen and flows into the Örtze north of Oldendorf .
