Location of the community Südheide in the district of Celle

Südheide is a municipality in the district of Celle , which was formed on January 1, 2015 from the municipalities of Hermannsburg and Unterlüß . The name is derived from the Südheide , the southwestern part of the Lüneburg Heath that drains the Aller .

Geographical location

Südheide is located in the north of the Celle district in the northern part of the Südheide Nature Park . The two main towns, Hermannsburg in the west and Unterlüß in the east, are 16.5 km apart (connecting road K17). Hermannsburg is located approx. 28.7 km north of Celle and 30.7 km south-east of Soltau , Unterlüß approx. 29.2 km south-west of Uelzen (each road between the town center). The municipal areas of Uelzen and Soltau each extend up to about 8 km from the municipal area of Südheide. The municipality of Celle extends up to about 1 km from the municipality of Südheide.

Südheide lies on the Lüß and lies on the deeper area of the Örtze glacial valley (Hermannsburg and surrounding villages) as well as the areas of the Lüß plateau rising towards Lutterloh and then Unterlüß , in the area of the Lüßwald forest and its adjacent forest and heather areas.

These localities include: Altensothrieth , Barmbostel , Hetendorf , Lünsholz (forester's house), Neuensothrieth (forester's house), Neu-Lutterloh (a farming settlement, founded in 1955), Neuschröderhof , Schafstall (forester's house), Schröderhof , Siedenholz (formerly forester's house, today youth forest home) and Theerhof .

Going clockwise from the north, Südheide borders on Faßberg , the northernmost municipality in the district of Celle, twice alternating with Eimke and Suderburg in the combined municipality of Suderburg in the district of Uelzen, on Eschede and Bergen in the district of Celle and Wietzendorf in the Heidekreis.

history

The reason for the municipal merger was the decline in population in the region as well as the below-average tax income of the municipalities, which is why there was a threat of ever higher debts. Through a debt relief agreement with the state of Lower Saxony, 75% of the liquidity loans are taken over by the state. In addition, due to the larger number of inhabitants, the new municipality receives more financial allocations and only has to pay a reduced district levy for a limited period of time .

Originally, Südheide was to be founded from the three municipalities of Faßberg , Hermannsburg and Unterlüß, but Faßberg got out of the merger talks at the beginning of July 2012.

The election of the mayor, the council and the local councils took place on November 2, 2014. Local councils are formed for the localities of Baven, Beckedorf, Bonstorf, Hermannsburg, Lutterloh, Oldendorf, Unterlüß and Weesen.

mayor

Axel Flader (CDU) has been the full-time mayor of the Südheide community since January 1, 2015 . In the mayoral election on November 2, 2014, he was elected unopposed candidate with 84.4% of the vote. The turnout was 50.2%. Flader was previously mayor of the municipality of Hermannsburg.

The three-part "church flag" is to be seen as a symbol of the Holy Trinity. The globe with the church cross is intended to illustrate the importance of Hermannsburg as the center of a worldwide mission.

Town twinning

The community of Südheide has a partnership with the French Auterive (Haute-Garonne) . It took over the partnership that had been concluded in 1979 between the then independent municipality of Hermannsburg - now a part of Südheide - and Auterive.
