Suderburg is a municipality in the middle of the Lüneburg Heath in the district of Uelzen , Lower Saxony . In the municipality of Suderburg, which is part of the Suderburg municipality , around 4500 people live with around 1400 students.

history

Sutherburg was first mentioned in a document in 1004.

In 1957 the villages of Graulingen, Oldendorf I and Suderburg were combined to form today's Suderburg.

In 1847 the Celle - Uelzen - Lüneburg - Harburg - Wilhelmsburg railway was put into operation. In 1850 Suderburg received a train station that was expanded in 1859 .

Suderburger farmers probably developed a special technique of meadow irrigation, the so-called Suderburger ridge construction , which became widespread towards the end of the 18th century . This irrigation technique was further developed from 1853 in the meadow building school founded for this purpose .

Incorporations

On July 1, 1972, the communities Bahnsen, Böddenstedt, Hamerstorf, Holxen, Hösseringen and Räber were incorporated.

University campus Suderburg

Suderburg is the location of the Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences . The former Wiesenbauschule Suderburg was part of the Northeast Lower Saxony University of Applied Sciences and focuses on training in the areas of environmental technology or hydraulic engineering / water management, civil engineering, trade and logistics, social work and an online course in business administration.
