The Samtgemeinde Suderburg is a joint municipality in the middle of the Lüneburg Heath in the district of Uelzen , Lower Saxony . Three municipalities have come together in it to carry out their administrative business. The administrative seat of the joint municipality is in Suderburg .

Geographical location

The area of ​​the combined municipality Suderburg is located in the south-western part of the district of Uelzen in the city triangle Hamburg - Hanover - Braunschweig . The Gerdau and Hardau flow through the integrated community. The area is served by the federal highways 4, 191 and 71 as well as the Hanover – Hamburg railway line.

Joint council

The council of the Suderburg municipality consists of 18 councilors. This is the specified number for a municipality with a population between 6,001 and 7,000. The 18 council members are elected by local elections for five years each. The current term of office began on November 1, 2011 and ends on October 31, 2016.

The full-time Mayor of the Joint Community, Thomas Schulz (independent), is also entitled to vote in the Council of the Joint Community.

The last local election on September 11, 2011 resulted in the following:

  • SPD : 25.7% - 5 seats
  • WSL : 16.3% - 3 seats
  • Greens : 12.3% - 2 seats

In the local elections in 2011, two fewer council members had to be elected due to declining population.

The full-time mayor of the combined municipality Suderburg is Thomas Schulz (non-party). In the last mayoral election on May 25, 2014, he was elected unopposed candidate with 88.0% of the vote. The turnout was 57.6%. Thomas Schulz took office on November 1, 2014, replacing the previous incumbent Friedhelm Schulz (non-party), who had no longer stood as a candidate.
