The area of the museum village Hösseringen is surrounded by extensive forest areas of the Lüneburg Heath , which form a natural background for the buildings and agricultural display areas of the museum village.

The hall houses on display are true to original reconstructions, most of which come from the Uelzen district . To date, 26 buildings from the period between the 16th and 19th centuries have been rebuilt. The showpiece of the museum village is the hall house of the Brümmerhof, a single courtyard from the early 17th century.

The permanent exhibitions provide insights into working techniques and tools used in beekeeping , sheep farming , spinning , weaving , forging and many other rural craft techniques . In addition to the exhibitions, great importance is attached to depicting old handicrafts and their technology in rural areas in the workflow. For example, horses are often shod in the blacksmith shop, or cloths are woven or bread baked in other buildings. Cottage gardens from around 1900 are also cultivated and illustrate the life of the rural population.

The museum also houses a collection of 45,000 objects from the rural cultural assets of the Lüneburg Heath, an archive with sources on the rural history of the Lüneburg Heath and a library with around 20,000 volumes.
