Baven is part of the municipality of Südheide in the northern district of Celle . It is located on the western edge of the Südheide Nature Park , in the Lüneburg Heath and currently has 1638 inhabitants.
history
The first settlements can be traced back to the older Bronze Age . In 1932 Dr. Hans Piesker , an archaeologist from Hermannsburg, unearthed the “Baven House of the Dead” . The remains of an east-west oriented house and various grave goods dating from the Early Bronze Age (2200 BC - 1600 BC) were found under a thick layer of fire in the north-west sector of a hill .
Until the 19th century, Baven consisted of 15 farmsteads for centuries, until the sale and division of a farmyard resulted in new settlement opportunities and the population increased significantly. On January 1, 1973, Baven became part of the Hermannsburg community as part of the regional and administrative reform in Lower Saxony .
politics
With the merger of Hermannsburg with the neighboring community of Unterlüß on January 1, 2015, the place became part of the community of Südheide .
The local council of Baven consists of five local council members. Local mayor is Norbert Nehrig.
