The heaths and grasslands in the Südheide are a nature reserve in the Lower Saxon communities of Faßberg and Südheide in the district of Celle .

General

The nature reserve with the sign NSG LÜ 334 is approximately 753  hectares . The nature reserve, which consists of 15 partial areas, is for the most part also designated as an FFH area "Heiden und Magerrasen in der Südheide". In addition, the “Schmarbecker Heide” sub-area of ​​the FFH area “Ilmenau with tributaries” is part of the nature reserve. The previous nature reserve " Moor bei Gerdehaus ", most of the nature reserve " Heideflächen Mitteles Lüßplateau " and parts of the nature reserve " Südheide im Landkreis Celle" merged into the nature reserve "Heiden und Magerrasen in der Südheide". The area has been under nature protection since July 30, 2019. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Celle.

Location and description

The nature reserve is located in the Südheide , all in the northern part of the Südheide Nature Park . The area extends roughly from the villages of Faßberg in the north and Unterlüß in the east to Hermannsburg in the southwest. The partial areas of the reserve are almost completely from the conservation area surrounded "Südheide in the district of Celle".

The northernmost sub-area are the heather areas of the "Schmarbecker Heide" with the summit cross of the Faßberg (92 m above sea ​​level ) and the "Schmarbecker Wacholderwald". The Sothrieth flows through one of the sub-areas south of Faßberg . In the vicinity of this nature reserve is the excavation site of a fire grave from the 2nd century, the " Hankenbostel equestrian grave ". Further to the south are the now protected heather areas on the Haußelberg , the summit of which (117 m above HNH) was used by the mathematician Gauß in the 19th century to survey the Kingdom of Hanover by triangulation . In addition, the heather areas of the former kieselguhr mining areas near Neuohe and north and south of Oberohe are now protected. The southernmost areas of the protected area are the areas of the former "Heideflächen Mitteles Lüßplateau" nature reserve east of Lutterloh and southeast of Hermannsburg ( Misselhorner Heide and Tiefental ). Stages 10–12 of the Heidschnuckenweg lead through the nature reserve.

With the nature reserve, remaining areas of the formerly widespread heathland are placed under protection and with the moor near Gerdehaus south of Faßberg a near-natural micro- moor is included. The area is characterized by partially dry or damp heaths, juniper heaths as well as arboreal grass and dry grassland . In addition, there are small moors, forests, dry and wet bushes as well as still and flowing waters in places.

The dry heather is dominated by common heather . Sometimes the heaths are pronounced as juniper heaths with heather-juniper . Furthermore, stocks of English and hairy gorse can be found. In addition, the heaths are interspersed with groups of trees or individual trees. In addition, there are transitions to sparse pine, birch and oak forests. In addition to common heather , bell heather , quendel silk , club bear moss , black crowberry , three-toothed , arnica , real bearberry , real moon rue , heather sedge , low salsify and loggerhead moss can be found. The dry Heiden are habitat, among other things for the birds Ziegenmelker , shrike , Neuntöter , Heidelerche , Feldlerche , Schwarzkehlchen , Gartenrotschwanz and Baumpieper that reptiles Zauneidechse , Schlingnatter and adder , the butterflies ocher Bindiger Samtfalter , Brauner Feuerfalter , Dukatenfalter , silver-studded blue and locusts Western biting insect , red-bodied grasshopper , small heather grasshopper and spotted club hoppers .

In the damp heaths, some of which are pronounced as bog heaths , bell heather dominates. This is accompanied by rosemary heather , cranberry , bog lily , turf rush , sphagnum orchid, lung gentian , bulky rush , round-leaved sundew , middle sundew , millet sedge , sheath and narrow-leaved cotton grass . Reptiles are represented by the forest lizard and adder. Furthermore, lung gentian ant blue and short-winged bite insects are native here.

The bristle grass lawns are distinctive as species-rich grasslands with the name-giving bristle grass . This is complemented by arnica, trident, common finial , dog violet , lung gentian, bulky rush, wood lice and millet sedge. The bristle grass lawns are home to the butterflies Lungenenzian-ant blue and ocher velvet butterflies .

The forests in the protected area are mainly as a dwarf shrub rich pine forests, oak woods with stalk and sessile oak and as bog woodland pronounced. They have a high proportion of old and dead wood .

Scabbard and narrow-leaved cottongrass, cranberry, hedgehog sedge and fever clover settle in bogs and valleys . White and brown schnabelried , medium and round-leaved sundew and marsh bear moss can be found in peat bog ditches with Schnabelried societies . The moors accommodate z. B. the little moss maid .

The still waters are partially home to beach lice or dwarf rush vegetation. Here settle among other dwarfs , illecebrum , Eriophorum angustifolium, Knöterichlaichkraut , Small water hose , perforated peat moss and warty peat moss . The still waters are habitat z. B. for the amphibian moor frog , natterjack toad and common garlic toad and the dragonflies peat mosaic damsel , little rush damsel and black darter .

Addition to the listed nature reserve more dragonflies hosts daytime and moths , grasshoppers , ground beetles , wild bees and grave wasps .
