The Breite Moor is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony town of Celle and in the municipality of Eschede in the district of Celle .

description

The nature reserve with the sign NSG LÜ 026 is 122  hectares in size. Of this, 96.8 hectares are in the district of Celle and 25.2 hectares in the city of Celle. The nature reserve is almost congruent with the FFH area of the same name No. 085 (116.1 ha). The Breite Moor lies northeast of Celle between the Celle district of Garßen and Eschede . The moor was created by silting up a depression with a high water level. This process led from the stage of a fen to a raised bog . This type of bog has only a small layer of peat (up to a maximum of two meters). It is cut through in the north by the B 191 . Individual areas of the original moor area were converted into grassland. In the center of the protected area there are several ponds that were previously used as fish ponds. Other smaller ponds, which are still managed as fish ponds, are located in the southwest and partly outside the nature reserve. The higher, drier peripheral areas were formerly characterized by heather . Most of these areas have been afforested with conifers . As a result of these measures and the abandonment after the two world wars, the area has lost much of its original character. The numerous peat cuttings have become filled with water. The moor vegetation can regenerate here. The area is drained primarily in a southerly direction via Harberlandbach and Altenhägener Kanal zur Lachte . The area has been a nature reserve since March 6, 1975. Responsible lower nature conservation authorities are the district of Celle and the city of Celle.

flora

In the near-natural parts of the moor you can find rare plants including the yellow moor lily (Narthecium ossifragum) , white beak reed (Rhynchospora alba) , brown beak reed (Rhynchospora fusca) , lung gentian (Gentiana pneumonanthe) , swamp bear moss or moor moss ( Lycopodiella inundata) and the narrow-leaved cottongrass (Eriophorum angustifolium) . Carnivorous plants, the medium sundew (Drosera intermedia) , the round-leaved sundew (Drosera rotundifolia) and the small water tube (Utricularia minor) also grow here . Rarities are softwort (Hammarbya paludosa) and sphagnum orchid (Dactylorhiza sphagnicola) as well as the rare shiny water lily (Nymphaea candida) . The dense belt with gagelstrauch (Myrica gale) on the edge of the moor, which was almost completely destroyed by the fire in the Lüneburg Heath in August 1975 , is regenerating.
