Hellern bei Wietze is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipality of Wietze in the district of Celle .

The nature reserve with the sign NSG LÜ 309 is about 66  hectares . It is practically congruent with the FFH area of the same name . In the south it borders on the landscape protection area "Forest Round Horn Fuhrberg". The area has been under nature protection since November 7, 2018. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Celle.

The nature reserve is located southwest of Wietze in the Wietzenbruch. It places a deciduous forest area in the lowlands of the Wietze under protection. The forest communities are of oak forests on sandy soils with English oak , wood-rush-beech forests and beech forests with holly and humid Eichenmisch- and oak-hornbeam forests dominated. Alluvial forests with black alder and ash grow along the Wietze .

The forests have a high proportion of old and dead wood . Various endangered plant species settle in the forests of the nature reserve, including cylinder sedge and purge buckthorn, as well as lichens such as script and pore lichen and fungi such as liver shrimp , glossy lacquer sponge and oak fire sponge . The area is the habitat of various bats and birds . The forest companies with their old and dead wood offer z. B. small woodpecker and green woodpecker a suitable habitat.

The forest area is traversed by the developed Wietze. It is a hunting ground and a walking corridor for the otter .

The nature reserve is largely surrounded by agricultural land . In the south it borders in places on forest communities of the Hellern, which are not included in the nature reserve, in the west on other forest communities of the Grauwinkel. In the east the nature reserve adjacent to between Wietze and Fuhrberg running county road . The forest area is managed by the Lower Saxony State Forests .
