The "Großes Moor bei Becklingen" nature reserve has a size of 850 hectares, 666 hectares of which are in the district of Celle and 184 hectares in the district of Heidekreis . The area has been under protection since December 16, 1985. An area of 776.6 ha is designated as an FFH area . The moor is located in the Lüneburg Heath , south of Wietzendorf and east of Becklingen , a district of the city of Bergen . The Meiße has its headwaters in this high moor .
development
The original moor has been drained since the 1950s and largely converted to grassland in order to create smaller rural settlements here. The state of Lower Saxony has now acquired large areas. The original moor landscape is to be restored through water retention. The receiving waters , which were once dug for large-scale drainage of the moor, have been dammed up again by dams. Large areas of the nature reserve were decussed. In some cases, forest-like areas were cleared of trees, mainly pine and birch . In the nature reserve there is a plantation with cultivated blueberries . These neophytes have also spread widely outside the plantation and are causing problems here, as is the late blooming bird cherry , which has spread widely in the area.
Flora and fauna
flora
Large areas of the moor are overgrown with blue pipe grass. The nature reserve also offers space for various, sometimes rare and protected plants and animals. The plants here include, for example, the carnivorous round-leaved and the mean sundew , as well as the king fern , the white schnabelried , scabbard cottongrass , narrow-leaved cottongrass , yellow moor lily , purse linseed , crowberries , bogberries and rosemary heather . The population of the two-leaved forest hyacinth (an orchid plant ) has spread widely. The small water hose , which is also carnivorous, grows in the water .
fauna
The area is home to the moor frog and the rare blue-bog moor, which is on the Red List of Endangered Species in Category 2 (endangered) . The crane moves here on his boy nightjar , the meadow pipit , curlew , gray shrike , red-backed shrike , Stonechat and Whinchat , the yellowhammer , lapwing and snipe have settled. In terms of dragonfly species in the moor, you can find the Nordic , Small and Large Moss damsel , darter and the peat damsel . As a result of its remoteness, the moor offers an important habitat for the threatened and very disturbance- sensitive black grouse . Together with the neighboring and largely contiguous areas around the Munster and Bergen military training areas , the Lüneburg Heath nature reserve , the Unterlüß shooting range operated by Rheinmetall and the Große Heide near Unterlüß , the Kiehnmoor and Brambosteler Moor , the moors near Sittensen , the Ostenholzer Moor , the Meißendorfer Ponds and the Bannetz Moor, this part of the Lüneburg Heath is home to the largest contiguous black grouse in the Central European lowlands.
use
In November 2013, the Heinrich-Eggers-Turm , an 8.44-meter high observation tower made of oak, was built in the southeast of the nature reserve . It is released to the public. There is a permanently installed telescope on its viewing platform . At the foot of the tower, display boards provide information about the development of the raised bog since 1770 and the measures taken to date for renaturation .
